The world is an obviously vapid place

At times, I clearly live under a rock.  And/or, I don’t watch enough daytime television or something.  But recently, I began hearing about the phrase “dad bod,” and suddenly I can’t stop hearing about dad bods.

Long story short is that I think it’s stupid, I hope it goes away quickly, and that it absolutely affirms society’s vapid obsession with the physical.  It’s a clear double-standard, because it basically says that it’s okay for men to be fat lazy fucks, but women are pressured to become as hot as they can if they want any chance of success in the world.

Frankly, I could blather on for 500 words or more on the topic, but Jon Stewart and Kristen Schaal hit the nail on the head pretty succinctly on their own, and I see no need for it.

My bottom line is that I may be closer to a dad bod than not, but if it were up to me, I’d be closer to getting away from a dad bod than letting go of all restraint and dedication to physical fitness and ending up with one, just to be a flavor of the month.  This shit is frankly kind of insulting to men, and I can’t say I’d have any respect for others who voluntarily try to feed the machine and take part in this bullshit trend.

Photos: League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational

So after a few years of watching LoL streams, the east coast of the United States was finally thrown a bone with an actual League event, with the arrival of the first annual Mid-Season Invitational.  The good news was that it was within reasonable driving distance for me, however the bad news was that it was held in Tallahassee, Florida, and most notably, on Florida State campus.

Florida State blows, but since it would be nice to actually attend and see a notable League event, sacrifices had to be made.

Anyway, as a whole, I thought the event was pretty good.  MSI proved that there are in fact, serious LoL fans on the east coast, and hopefully this will be a promising sign that perhaps more things might come to the east coast; maybe not such a shithole like Tallahassee, and perhaps a place that’s easily accessible by anyone via plane, car or internationally, has facilities to host, as well as an existing culture, like say one of the Collegiate teams, like in, oh, I don’t know, like Atlanta*cough?

PawN wins the Mid-Season Invitational

I’ll eventually post pictures and share some additional thoughts about MSI at another time, but I wanted to write about this while it is still somewhat fresh on my mind.

Edward Gaming as a team might’ve won the first-ever League of Legends Mid-Seasonal Invitational, but really, the true winner of the whole shebang was their mid-laner, PawN.

I’ll be honest, I’m not really that keen on PawN.  I think he’s kind of petty, arrogant, envious of those more popular than him, and I really dislike the fact that he’s a Korean national who plays for a Chinese team.  All that said, there’s no denying that he’s easily one of the best LoL players in the world, and frankly after MSI, has legitimate claim to being the best mid-laner in the world.

That’s racissssst

Hard hitting journalism all across the interwebs today.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution asks: Is “thug” a racial slur?

According to Mirriam-Webster:

a violent criminal

So the answer is no.  Stop and period.  Stop being so racist AJC, and trying to inject the race card into a deck of UNO cards.  It’s just not going to work, no matter how much rhetoric you spout.

In Milliken, Colorado, a Hispanic restaurant has decided that they will acknowledge June 11th as “White Appreciation Day.”  All, and only white customers, will enjoy a discount on their orders.

“We have a whole month for Black History Month,” Antillon said. “We have a whole month for Hispanic Heritage Month, so we thought the least we could do was offer one day to appreciate white Americans.”

So there’s basically black awareness, Hispanic awareness, and now white awareness.  Where the fuck is Asian awareness?  According to Wikipedia, that’s supposed to be May, but the United States sure as shit doesn’t put any effort in tryna make this knowledge remotely public.

I’m pretty sure I can’t march into any businesses and inquire about Asian Heritage Month discounts, and actually expect to get any.  Unless it’s like at a weeaboo place or something, but still.

Whatever.  Errybody be racist.

Happy Asian Heritage Month, motherfuckers

The nerd rage over new Harley Quinn is real

Over the last few days over social media, I’ve seen Margot Robbie’s leaked images of her portrayal of Harley Quinn called things from a “strung-out hooker” to all sorts of rage that she’s basically not Paul Dini’s rendition of the character.  This is the sort of thing that happens when you know a whole lot of females that cosplay.

Interestingly enough, there was barely a fifth of the same kind of rage when just weeks ago, Jared Leto’s rendition of The Joker was released.  When it comes to nerds, Harley Quinn is one of the epitome pinups of nerd culture as a whole, and basically any attempt to even try and humanize Harley would predictable end up with resistance and rejection outright.

Naturally, nobody really needs to be reminded that most nerd collective hated the initial still of Heath Ledger’s Joker when The Dark Knight was being teased, but after the movie was released, it was a pretty unanimous conclusion that Heath Ledger was absolutely brilliant in the role and portrayal.

Screwing players is where eSports bridges the difference gap to athletic sports

Impetus: Former AD carry for European team Fnatic, “Rekkles” rejoins Fnatic after being on a shitty team during 2015 spring split.  Fnatic cuts “Steelback,” the AD carry that contributed to Fnatic winning the 2015 spring split outright.

Normally, I try to remain neutral when it comes to the argument of “should eSports be classified as real sports,” because there are multiple parts of all arguments that I agree and disagree with.  But this is a story that upon reading it, makes me realize that eSports are very much capable of acting like athletic sports, when it comes to asset management; assets being the players themselves.

Personally, I think this is a really shitty scenario, in which ultimately, a good player is screwed and cut, on account of a supposed better player being available, and being immediately scooped up to replace him.  This is a similar situation that I’ve seen in all major athletic sports, be it baseball, basketball and football, and makes me feel the irony in that screwing players, is where eSports really can bridge the gap between themselves and athletic sports.

Amateur thoughts on MayPac and the future of boxing

I’m one of likely millions who were more or less disappointed with the result of the much-anticipated Mayweather-Pacquiao fight.  To no surprise, Mayweather won via decision after 12-rounds, like he’s won the five fights prior to Pacquiao, which I pretty much predicted, if he didn’t outright knock him out in an early round.

I don’t know much about the technical aspect of boxing, but it’s still a sport that I enjoy watching, so I’m sure I’m very subject to criticism about my thoughts that I’m writing now.  But the fight was boring, because of the uber-defense tactic employed by Mayweather, and the fact that he fired basically fewer than 50 strikes, as opposed to only throwing punches in counter to the numerous blows fired by Pacquiao.

The fight was pretty much decided by the fifth round, when the constant updates of the score gradually updated Pacquiao’s inability to connect with blows in spite of throwing so many, and the monumentally higher accuracy in which Mayweather was connecting, because he only threw punches in defense basically.  It was agreed upon with the people I was watching with that if Pacquiao didn’t outright knock out Mayweather, it was just a ticking countdown until Mayweather was going to be declared the winner.  And naturally, Mayweather turtled himself to victory by basically dancing around Pacquiao for the remaining 21 minutes.
