What the title of this post means, at least according to Google translate is \u201cit happened again<\/em><\/strong>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

What happened again, one might be inquiring?<\/span><\/p>\n

Oh nothing much, just being mistaken for a Hispanic.\u00a0 Again.<\/span><\/p>\n

When it\u00a0first happened<\/a>\u00a0to me in my own neighborhood, I figured it was mostly on account of na\u00efve and sheltered black kids not being educated in the double standard of flinging stones while telling others stones can\u2019t be flung at them, or they were just dumb kids.\u00a0 Perhaps both.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, given the general intelligence, or lack thereof, of the people that live in my own neighborhood, it wasn\u2019t really that big of a surprise that there are kids dumb as bricks that have apparently never seen an Asian person in their entire lives.\u00a0 Seriously, when I finally\u00a0told them that I wasn\u2019t Hispanic<\/a>, their second guess was\u00a0French<\/strong>, and their third guess was\u00a0Italian<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Regardless of the ironic humor behind the whole embarrassing escapade, I actually didn\u2019t really expect that this would happen to me again, unless I happened to stumble across a society of people that have apparently never seen a Hispanic person, much less an Asian person.<\/span><\/p>\n

Silly of me to make such a na\u00efve assumption!<\/span><\/p>\n

This most recent time, it was a little white girl, for whatever reason, standing behind the counter at a Rite Aid with the cashier.\u00a0 She then proceeds to greet my girlfriend (I know, right?<\/em>) and her father with \u201cHi,\u201d and then looks at me, and without any hesitation says \u201cHola.\u201d\u00a0 Reflexively, my lips pursed, and I forced a smile and said \u201cHello\u201d in return.<\/span><\/p>\n

Next time this happens, I\u2019m just going to run with it.\u00a0 I took two years of Spanish in high school, I\u2019m just going to respond with asking what their name is and where the bathroom is.\u00a0 Because frankly, it would be silly of me to assume that this wouldn\u2019t happen again, but next time, I\u2019ll hopefully be ready for it.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
