As much as I clown on AEW, I have to say that one of the things they\u2019re doing that actually has me pretty fascinated is the way they\u2019re booking Kenny Omega.\u00a0 Which shouldn\u2019t really be surprise that he\u2019s got a compelling storyline, seeing as how he\u2019s one of the VPs of AEW as well as one of the foundation blocks in which the promotion was built on.\u00a0 But with his <\/span>cross-promotional victory<\/a> over Rich Swann of TNA\/Impact, Omega adds two more blets to his expanding collection of championships, adding the TNA and Impact unified world titles to the AEW championship as well as the AAA (Mexico) championship, which basically says he is <\/span>the<\/em> top guy for three different promotions.<\/span><\/p>\n I\u2019ve always been fascinated by belt collector storylines, because historically it\u2019s so rarely done, primarily because more often than not, it requires a degree of cross-promotion, which is a lot like asking a Klansman to partner up with a Black Panther to save the planet.\u00a0 It\u2019s been attempted within a single promotion a handful of times, with <\/span>Lance Storm<\/strong><\/a> coming to mind with his torrid 2000 run collecting the WCW United States, Cruiserweight and Hardcore titles in quick succession.\u00a0 And as much as I liked <\/span>the Miz\u2019s<\/strong><\/a> run in 2010 where he was toting around three blets, the tags were unified and kind of count as one.<\/span><\/p>\n TNA tried to kind of run a blet collector in like 2015 when they had <\/span>Kurt Angle<\/strong><\/a> win every single blet within the company as well as the IWGP World Championship, but so often times is the case with TNA, nobody noticed, nobody cared, and it fell flat pretty quickly when he started rapidly shedding blets, and New Japan doesn\u2019t officially recognize the reign with the IWGP championship because of one of the many spats they had with Antonio Inoki over it.<\/span><\/p>\n One of the most famous importantly, Omega is a god-tier worker in the ring, who can literally work with just about anyone on the planet and put on an entertaining match.\u00a0 If there\u2019s anyone who should be a true threat to collect any blet they want, it\u2019s a guy like Omega.<\/span><\/p>\n And then we have the fact that between the histories and working relationships that the AEW VPs (Omega, Cody, the Bucks) have with numerous other promotions, the groundwork is truly already established, and not so much like promoters cold-calling each other with ideas to collaborate and then ultimately squabble and lead to some shitty storytelling.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n They\u2019ve already cashed in taking the blets away from AAA in Mexico and Impact, and based on the relationships already in place and the utilization of <\/span>the forbidden door<\/em>, if I had to predict, Omega will probably eventually go after the NWA heavyweight championship, a possibility of mixing it up against Ring of Honor, with an eventual goal of cross-promoting with New Japan, to try for the IWGP world championship.<\/span><\/p>\n Plus Tony Khan has money and money to burn evidently, and if there\u2019s one thing that keeps any working relationship amicable, it\u2019s money.\u00a0 This isn\u2019t the case of two starving indies squabbling over gates, basically anyone who would agree to play ball with AEW will probably be getting paid in order to do so.<\/span><\/p>\n Obviously, it\u2019s hard to fantasize about the blet collector without eventually involving the WWE, but the likelihood is probably nil.\u00a0 Short of WWE agreeing, only on the condition that Roman Reigns would squash Kenny Omega and his hypothetical ten-belt collection, I wouldn\u2019t put any money on this actually happen.<\/span><\/p>\n But I\u2019d be tickled pink if somewhere along the line, whether it\u2019s some teasing or simply negligent gray-area management, the blet collector comes knocking, and somehow intertwines themselves with one of the promotions that act likes a farm team for the WWE like Progress or ICW, or gets their foot in the door with like NXT UK, since I could see this eventually turning into getting blets from various regions of the world too.<\/span><\/p>\n Anyway, as much flack as I give AEW for their unorthodox-to-me business practices, I do like the idea of Kenny Omega
