I was excited when I saw that <\/span>Love Death + Robots<\/em> season 2 had a formal drop date.\u00a0 I enjoyed the first season <\/span>tremendously<\/a>, even if there was a lot of <\/span>controversy<\/a> around the perceived subject matter of two specific episodes, and regardless of what a bunch of SJWs on the internet felt, I still loved the first season, as it was an enjoyable, fast-paced anthology of short and sweet stories that paraded a myriad of animation styles, which touched all spectrums of the heart and mind, and was over in the blink of an eye because every episode ranged between 7-15 minutes.\u00a0 So when I saw that more LD+R was on the way, I was quite pleased, and made sure to earmark some of my limited daily time to indulge.<\/span><\/p>\n At just eight episodes, S2 was over in the blink of an eye as well, if not shorter, and I watched all eight episodes in two short sittings, although I could easily have done so in just one if I timed it correctly.<\/span><\/p>\n I will say, I think that the polarizing reception of the first season probably had some influence on the second, or maybe it\u2019s because it was a shorter season, but I felt like S2 didn\u2019t have quite the bite that the first season did.\u00a0 I\u2019m not saying I require gratuitous violence or violence towards women specifically, but I felt that there was a little bit of edge lacking in this second season of the show.\u00a0 The subjects of the episodes were more abstract and broad, and in most cases, did not seem to contain all three of the requisite love, death or robots, not that such was ever an established rule to begin with, but seemed to be better adhered to in the first anthology.<\/span><\/p>\n This isn\u2019t to say that I didn\u2019t like S2 at all, but after I had finished all eight episodes, there wasn\u2019t one in particular that I was enamored with and could gush to anyone who wanted to talk about LD+R that it was my favorite.\u00a0 But for all intents and purposes, this is how I\u2019d rank the episodes (in parenthesis, according to Netflix\u2019s order)<\/span><\/p>\n Really though, it would be my top three, and then the rest were just kind of there, interchangeable in rank depending on the mood I were in, which is to say that they were all kind of okay, and not particularly close to standing out above the others.<\/span><\/p>\n I would however, like to talk about Pop Squad; the reason I would say it was the best episode of the season was not necessarily because I liked it the most.\u00a0 In fact, the theme of the episode is completely horrific and I kind of hate it, but it was one of the episodes of the season that invoked all three love, death and robots, and frankly evoked the most emotional response out of me, which whether I liked it or not, makes it successful all the same.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n **Spoilers ahead, that being said**<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Short episode boiled down: it\u2019s the story about a dystopian future in which people have figured out how to live forever, and the threat of overpopulation means that procreation is no longer allowed.\u00a0 However, those who are not so self-absorbed and narcissistic to wish to live forever and wish to have and raise children must do so against the law and live in the slums and outskirts of society.\u00a0 Those who are discovered to having unauthorized children are arrested, and the children are mercilessly killed.<\/span><\/p>\n It\u2019s probably no surprise on what is the trigger warning for me, given my state as a parent these days, but Pop Squad definitely hit an emotional trigger for me that made it extremely hard to swallow.\u00a0 It probably makes me sound like a hypocrite for how I shrugged off the perception of violence against women that was often used in season one, but I have to imagine it might have been a similar sensation to me getting triggered by watching the idea of kids getting murdered, simply for being brought into an existence they didn\u2019t even ask for.<\/span><\/p>\n I am not a woman, so I will never know the frightening reality that women face in the world at the hands of men.\u00a0 But I am a parent now, so I definitely do understand the terror parents face at the mere thought of harm being brought unto their kids, and I had a real hard time watching Pop Squad, even though the \u201cprotagonist\u201d of the story does turn somewhat face throughout the story.<\/span><\/p>\n Regardless, as often as I try to do in my life, I can admit that I might\u2019ve been a little shortsighted with my judgment of season one\u2019s content, and have a little bit more empathy for those who watched some of the episodes and felt that it was a bit too glamorous towards violence towards women.\u00a0 And it took an episode from season two that felt a little bit too glamorous towards violence towards children to come to this realization.<\/span><\/p>\n All the same, as much as the subject matter really frightened the living shit out of me, I\u2019m glad there was at least one episode throughout the season that managed to get me to think and evoke emotion.\u00a0 It\u2019s why I still hold Love Death + Robots in some regard, even though I might not have liked the particular subject matter, it still did its job of getting me to think hard about something in the end.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" I was excited when I saw that Love Death + Robots season 2 had a formal drop date.\u00a0 I enjoyed the first season tremendously, even if there was a lot of controversy around the perceived subject matter of two specific episodes, and regardless of what a bunch of SJWs on the internet felt, I still … Continue reading Let\u2019s talk about Love Death + Robots S2<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[83,156,25,69,146],"class_list":["post-47924","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-brog","tag-observations","tag-social-media","tag-technology","tag-television","tag-triggered"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/totfc.net\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/47924","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/totfc.net\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/totfc.net\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/totfc.net\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/totfc.net\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=47924"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"http:\/\/totfc.net\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/47924\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":47926,"href":"http:\/\/totfc.net\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/47924\/revisions\/47926"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/totfc.net\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=47924"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/totfc.net\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=47924"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/totfc.net\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=47924"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}\n
