thankfully, this is the last one. I had a lot more in the past, but they couldn’t wait, and ended up being posted to the old site anyway.

I wrote this one the night after running in the Krispy Kreme Challenge a few weekends ago. I was feeling like crap having eaten nothing but crap for two straight days, and a dozen donuts didn’t exactly help the cause either.

Basically the summary of it all is that despite the fun I’ve had the last two years, I don’t plan on running in the Krispy Kreme Challenge again, unless there are others willing to do it. It’s just one of those things that I’m wondering if it’s worth punishing my body for the amusement of nobody but myself? Nah, I’d rather do this with friends, but that’s right, none of my friends really likes running and doing crazy shit like this.

Originally written February 7th, 2010

55:41. For the second year in a row, I decided to take on the daunting Krispy Kreme Challenge, in which participants are to run 2.2 miles, down a dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts, and then run 2.2 miles back to the starting point, all within sixty minutes. And for the second year in a row, I successfully accomplished all tasks, and completed the Krispy Kreme Challenge in under an hour. At 55:41, this makes me officially 14 seconds slower in which I did so last year, which is a little surprising to me, since I felt like I was doing pretty well, and I certainly felt that I downed my dozen a lot quicker this year.

But no matter, because like last year, it was a great feeling to know that I’m capable of pushing my body through such extremities between the running of the challenging course, stuffing my face full of unhealthy, sugary pure gluttony, and then running all the way back with a dozen glazed in the belly, all while it was about 34 degrees with flurries coming down. It was certainly a lot colder than it was last year, but at the same time, I enjoyed it just the same.

I don’t think I’ll once again be the poster-child for North Carolina State University, but I did manage to get into the media once again; apparently, a cameraman for WRAL saw fit to put me online on WRAL.com, as part of their Krispy Kreme Challenge slideshow, which was a kick. Hulkamania and the world heavyweight championship remains immortalized in one more year of NC State history.

To be perfectly honest, I feel like crap. I had a big cup of coffee afterward to act as somewhat of a diuretic to help me purge the system of all the donuts, but as expected, it made sure to expand all of the starchy, doughy mess inside my gullet to uncomfortable standards. I got a decent amount of rest the night prior to the run, but I demonstrated obvious symptoms of a sugar-crash, as I wanted nothing more than to actually sleep, which I fought through regardlessly.

So with all this in mind, I have to ask myself – is it worth running in again? After all, I have nothing left to prove; I’m now a two-time, two-time Krispy Kreme Challenge completionist, and that’s more than adequate at asserting my dominance. The answer is pretty much simple – I won’t run it again … alone, that is.

As much fun as I have had the last two years, I simply don’t want to do it again myself. In a way, it makes me feel a little bit more ronery, knowing that out of all the people I know, there’s nobody else willing to do something as silly, yet challenging as this. It’s never about success or failure, but the experience as a whole, since it’s a charity event first and foremost. I may not run with my friends, since I am still a competitor, but I’ll be the first person waiting at the finish cheering and supporting those slower, as I would expect those faster than I would do for me.

So until any person(s) wishes to challenge themselves and have some fun in the process, I don’t forsee myself running in any future Krispy Kreme Challenges.

Time to bust out another piece from the transition period –
