I kind of want an iPad.\u00a0 The new one.\u00a0 The one called \u201cThe New iPad.\u201d\u00a0 Regardless of if it\u2019s going to one day have an awkward transitional phase to something other than \u201cThe New,\u201d when it\u2019s technically no longer new.\u00a0 In fact, it\u2019s been around long enough to where I wouldn\u2019t consider it very new anymore, already.<\/span><\/p>\n

But no matter, I still kind of want one.\u00a0 I\u2019m very much aware of the fact that it\u2019s very much a glorified and extremely expensive toy, but it doesn\u2019t change the fact that I would still like one.\u00a0 It\u2019s not going to replace my netbook or my laptop as something I could actually brog substantially from, and I don\u2019t even know a whole lot of function I would get out of it.\u00a0 Maybe I\u2019d play every single\u00a0Angry Birds<\/em>\u00a0level again, pursuing three stars.\u00a0 Supposedly\u00a0Final Fantasy Tactics<\/em>\u00a0is re-released for iOS, which I\u2019d probably get.\u00a0 I guess it has substantially better life than my netbook could to watch movies on.\u00a0 But not much else.\u00a0 It\u2019s a toy, I know.<\/span><\/p>\n

Anyway, the cheapskate jew in me is staunchly refusing to pay the $499 SRP for the low-end 16GB iPad.\u00a0 Because as cool as a toy it might be, I really don\u2019t want to drop five bills to get one.\u00a0 And frankly, when it comes to most consumer electronics, I\u2019m pretty stubborn about paying SRP for anything.\u00a0 But Apple\u2019s a different beast, one that thinks it shit don\u2019t stink, so what we have here is somewhat of an impasse.<\/span><\/p>\n

Without giving up too much information, the job I work entitles me to educational discounts, if they are available.\u00a0 Typically, Apple in the past has been obliging when it comes to offering educational discounts, but that was back then.\u00a0 Apple is so far up the mainstream\u2019s ass today, that their idea of discounts is pretty laughable these days.\u00a0 But the worst part is the limitations on educational discounts.\u00a0 As it turns out now, only computers are really the only things that seem to have discounts available to them.\u00a0 Slightly upward are discounts to iPhones, but only when purchased in numbers, and not for individual use.\u00a0 But as for iPads, there are no discounts available.\u00a0 They\u2019re toys, and toys serve no educational purpose, therefore they receive no educational discounts, I\u2019m left to surmise.<\/span><\/p>\n

Except, for elementary school levels, and of course, buying in numbers.<\/span><\/p>\n

This doesn\u2019t quite make sense to me; why should educating kids be the only channel to possibly get iPads at a discount?\u00a0 I\u2019ve worked for companies that have developed apps for iOS, and I\u2019ve personally worked on assets that have been used in apps meant for the iOS.\u00a0 As a designer, I could very well have involvement in the production of iPad applications or require an iPad for legitimate work reasons.\u00a0 Granted sure, I want an iPad for personal reasons, but it\u2019s nobody\u2019s business.<\/span><\/p>\n

What this says to me is that only the wee childrens are the ones destined to advance the iPad forward.\u00a0 By slapping the unit, wiping their sticky, booger-smeared fingers all over the pad, and tracing letters and numbers on a super high resolution touch screen.\u00a0 While us old fucks, who might actually be the ones responsible for developing shit for these devices, do not receive any sort of incentive of discounts to acquiring one.\u00a0 How does that work?<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
