{"id":34925,"date":"2012-12-26T22:34:24","date_gmt":"2012-12-27T02:34:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/totfc.net\/?p=34925"},"modified":"2020-07-03T22:34:34","modified_gmt":"2020-07-04T02:34:34","slug":"happiness-is-parks-and-recreation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/totfc.net\/?p=34925","title":{"rendered":"Happiness is Parks and Recreation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"border-image alignnone wp-image-34926 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/totfc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/sweetums.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"490\" height=\"246\" srcset=\"https:\/\/totfc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/sweetums.jpg 490w, https:\/\/totfc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/sweetums-300x151.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 490px) 100vw, 490px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Not to sound like too typical of a pessimistic Debbie-downing wet blanket, but it\u2019s not often that I\u2019m actually \u201chappy\u201d happy.\u00a0 Happiness is more or less pretty fleeting to me; things make me happy, but it\u2019s like getting the star in Mario; it lasts for a little bit, but eventually fades away, and then I\u2019m just in a place slightly above neutral.\u00a0 Eating a really good meal makes me happy.\u00a0 Having an invigorating and productive workout makes me happy.\u00a0 Seeing someone actually get pulled over in the HOV lane makes me happy.\u00a0 Bettering a Varus\/Blitz duo played by douchebags makes me happy.\u00a0 And so forth; none of these things are genuinely major events, but for what they\u2019re worth they all make me happy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Honestly, I can\u2019t remember the last time I was genuinely happy-all-smiles-uncharacteristically-generous kind of happy for any prolonged period of time, but I\u2019m not entirely sure that many people are generally disposed for that kind of behavior.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Anyway, I\u2019ve found something that I can add to the list:\u00a0<em>Parks and Recreation<\/em>.\u00a0 In the past, I\u2019ve seen a few fleeting episodes here and there, but mostly because people I know were already fans, and were trying to get me into it by playing a random episode late into the series.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t bad, but not having seen the show from the start and having an understanding of the character dynamics, it wasn\u2019t something I got into.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t hate it by any means, but until I took the time to sit down and watch from the start, I probably would never really like it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Throughout the last two weeks, I\u2019ve been chipping through the 68 episodes available on Netflix, and I have to say that through the first 38 episodes, it\u2019s easily one of the best shows I\u2019ve watched in quite some time.\u00a0 Over the holiday break, I\u00a0<em>LITRALLY.\u00a0<\/em>Stayed up until 3:30 a.m. for two nights watching Parks and Rec, because I frankly couldn\u2019t stop myself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">The show makes me happy, simply put.\u00a0 I find myself often smiling at the clever wit of the show, and the great character dynamic and interaction that apparently gets better as the show progresses and the performers grow more comfortable with familiarity with one another.\u00a0 All the characters are wonderful, and there aren\u2019t really any of them in which I dread seeing on screen.\u00a0\u00a0 The little reoccurring jokes, like tormenting Jerry often get me to laugh out loud.\u00a0 But the best parts of the show are always those shit-got-real moments, when the tone goes from whimsical to slightly deeper with conviction when characters demonstrate their genuine feelings and loyalties.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">And maybe it\u2019s just me, but I have to think that it\u2019s probably impossible for any man and most women to not have somewhat of a crush or fall in love with Leslie Knope.\u00a0 The character is brilliant, because she\u2019s perfect in that she\u2019s flawed, and the bright shiny personality is just so infectious.
