font-size: 12pt;\">I can\u2019t say that in spite of my enjoyment of\u00a0<em>League of Legends<\/em>, I\u2019m not an active member of the LoL community in the least bit.\u00a0 I don\u2019t participate in forums, and I don\u2019t take \u201cthe sport\u201d the least bit seriously.\u00a0 However, I admit that I\u2019m more aware of LoL-happenings on a somewhat regular basis, because I do find enjoyment in LoL-related memes, and I frequent a couple sites that update fairly regularly and frequently, providing me some sometimes ok LoL-related content.\u00a0 However, amidst the funny pictures is the occasional nod to current events in the League community.\u00a0 Usually it\u2019s something involving a professional player and their non-League activities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">But recently, there\u2019s been a lot of buzz about a \u201cpro-team\u201d that consists of nothing but female members and is boasting that they\u2019re\u00a0<strong>the first\u00a0<\/strong>all-female League of Legends professional team.\u00a0 But most importantly, they made this overly-produced promotional video of themselves, that the community has apparently taken a great amount of relish in ripping apart and making fun of.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">They call themselves \u201c<em>siren<\/em>\u201d (all lower-case, because that\u2019s feminine), and the video actually ironically humorously has each of the five members boasting about how \u201cI am a siren,\u201d amidst a whole bunch of micro-second long clips of supposedly them in-game, that\u00a0<em>don\u2019t actually show<\/em>\u00a0any in-game talent.\u00a0 And then there\u2019s a whole bunch of numbers and statistics pulled from previously seen infographics about how League is popular in the world, but that the vast majority of players and teams are all guys.\u00a0 And how\u00a0<strong>they\u2019re here to change all of that<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">I wonder why they didn\u2019t name themselves \u201csiryn\u201d with a Y?\u00a0 Were they afraid that they would get sued by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/media.comicvine.com\/uploads\/0\/77\/104924-174642-siryn.jpg\">Marvel Comics<\/a> or something?\u00a0 Why not go \u201csyryn,\u201d with\u00a0<em>two\u00a0<\/em>Ys, and really drive home that they\u2019re females!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">But seriously, the crosshairs of the community is clearly on them at the moment, and there\u2019s no shortage of criticism, flaming, white-knighting, and just general discussion about them.\u00a0 In that regard, they\u2019re already somewhat successful, as long as they firmly believe in the adage that\u00a0<em>there\u2019s no such thing as bad publicity<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">But naturally, lots of it is revolving around sexist undertones, and is devolving into this pointless, nobody-wins kind of battle of the sexes.\u00a0 From what I\u2019ve seen in sparse bursts of comments, just about everything\u2019s been said about how none of them are really that particularly attractive, about how it\u2019s phony, because they\u2019re all dolled up and wearing makeup for what\u2019s supposedly \u201cjust gaming,\u201d and how they\u2019re really not that good in the grand spectrum of LoL players.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Yeah, it\u2019s a thin line when it comes to people trying to be critical without crossing over into boundaries of where it could be perceived as sexism, but as far as I\u2019m concerned, it became a matter of sexism the moment these chicks felt the necessity to incorporate the tagline to their own team\u2019s logo of how they\u2019re the first all-female LoL team there is.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Personally, I couldn\u2019t care of what the gender of the people I\u2019m playing against is.\u00a0 I\u2019m pretty sure I\u2019ve gotten my ass handed to me by tons of women in the game, but at the same time, there\u2019s a good chance that I\u2019ve victimized a female player at some point.\u00a0 It\u2019s not like it\u2019s discussed in all-chat during the game on a regular basis.\u00a0 And as far as I\u2019m concerned, if you\u2019re better than me and beat the ever-living shit out of me in-game, you\u2019re automatically a fat, no-life, mouth-breathing basement dwelling pub-stomper and are irrefutably a dude.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">The thing is, I can kind of see why nobody is really giving siren any respect from what I can tell.\u00a0 From the onset, they\u2019ve made their entire team about how they\u2019re females first, and not League players.\u00a0 The fascinating thing about online arena gaming is the fact that behind computer screens, nobody has a gender and we\u2019re all equal players until divided by level of skill.\u00a0 Under a vague pseudonym, nobody will ever know if you have a penis or a vagina, and in the grand spectrum of playing games, that information is irrelevant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Just because the statistics say that 90% of LoL gamers and team compositions are all males doesn\u2019t mean that the community goes around rubbing their cocks, giving each other cock-fives and boast about how great it is that they\u2019re all men with penises, and how that there are no girls around.\u00a0 Yet in spite of that, siren felt what I think was an unnecessary need to kick down the door and turn this whole thing into a sexist matter.\u00a0 As far as I\u2019m concerned, they\u2019re deserving of most of the criticism that\u2019s directed towards them, but I have to imagine they\u2019re aware of the result, and as I said before, if they\u2019re firm believers in the no publicity is bad publicity adage, then they\u2019re getting precisely what they wanted \u2013 attention.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">They\u2019re like the WWE Divas.\u00a0 They go through such lengths to put their gender ahead of the occupation, and as a result nobody takes them seriously.\u00a0 It\u2019s a (un)proven fact that Divas matches are strategically placed in the cards of RAW and pay-per-views so that people can go to the bathroom or at the moments where competing television programming might be at its strongest or weakest, where they can capitalize or take their foot off the gas.\u00a0 And then there\u2019s the fact that their belt went from what was sure, a kind of bland-looking Womens\u2019 Championship Belt, into this over-the-top girl-power Divas Title, that even a belt collector like myself wouldn\u2019t even take for free.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">If it hasn\u2019t already happened, it\u2019s only a matter of time before siren is put to the test and has to play against other competitive teams out there.\u00a0 If they weren\u2019t doing this as an obvious ploy to garner a massive amount of attention quickly, they simply go about their business through the normal channels of arranging and creating their own team via the LoL team client, and work their way up with nobody being aware of their gender, and if they\u2019re really good, they ascend into the pro-ranks where those who care could find out for themselves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">But instead, it\u2019s as this point that siren has put themselves into a do-or-die position, where they simply\u00a0<em>must<\/em>\u00a0win and defeat reputable \u201cprofessional\u201d teams, or else be exposed as simply atypical attention-grubbing girls, trying too hard to be queens of shit mountain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora;
