{"id":38963,"date":"2014-04-28T23:26:46","date_gmt":"2014-04-29T03:26:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/totfc.net\/?p=38963"},"modified":"2020-07-11T23:26:57","modified_gmt":"2020-07-12T03:26:57","slug":"oh-georgia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/totfc.net\/?p=38963","title":{"rendered":"Oh, Georgia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"border-image alignnone wp-image-38964 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/totfc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/CMD.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"490\" height=\"275\" srcset=\"https:\/\/totfc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/CMD.jpg 490w, https:\/\/totfc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/CMD-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 490px) 100vw, 490px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">It\u2019s that time of the year again: where you\u2019re probably at work, and I am not, for today is the recognized\u00a0<strong><em>Confederate <\/em>Memorial Day<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">It\u2019s a paid day off, so I\u2019m not complaining about that part, but it never fails to amuse me when one of the Mondays of April is recognized as such an ironic day of remembrance.\u00a0 Sometimes, it\u2019s hard to believe people who publicly exclaim their excitement of the approaching holiday, because they\u2019re not really paying attention to\u00a0<em>why<\/em>\u00a0we\u2019re getting the day off, as much of the knowledge that it\u2019s a day off.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Ironic in that regard, is the fact that it\u2019s unavoidable to not acknowledge that Atlanta is a very predominantly black city, and there were people in my office who happen to be black, being overheard talking about how they couldn\u2019t wait for the \u201choliday weekend,\u201d because it meant having an extra day off, and their subsequent plans to accommodate the extra time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Personally, I like to brag about the fact that I have an extra day off, and then smirk and mockingly say for why.\u00a0 The irony in acknowledging, much less \u201ccelebrating\u201d Confederate Memorial Day is not lost on me.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">As for what I did over the weekend, I kind of shot myself in the foot; I say kind of, because it wasn\u2019t because of an unworthy cause, but I did forfeit my aspirations to spread my wings and explore somewhere new.\u00a0 I had earmarked Sunday, as a day in which I would have either flown to Houston, Texas if the flights were accommodating, to knock another ballpark off of my list of Major League ballparks, but if that didn\u2019t work, I was thinking about driving to either Chattanooga or Greenville, two areas within reasonable driving distance, to where I could have seen some Minor League baseball in a park I\u2019d never been to.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">It\u2019s no secret that I do love my traveling.\u00a0 But none of those trips happened, because I picked up a rush freelance project that went into Sunday, and obligation does come first.\u00a0 So I opted to do work and make money, instead of spending money and traveling.\u00a0 In the end, it\u2019s comes out about even, but in some regards, I feel like I missed an opportunity to explore a new city on a weekend where I wouldn\u2019t have been penalized by missed work, if I happened to get stranded somewhere.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Que sera, sera, so I guess I\u2019ll settle for the consolation prize of\u00a0<em>making\u00a0<\/em>money, and getting to sleep in and relax on this ironic holiday instead.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s that time of the year again: where you\u2019re probably at work, and I am not, for today is the recognized\u00a0Confederate Memorial Day.
