That\u2019s the sentiment I feel like I\u2019m deriving based on scuttlebutt chatter as Dragon*Con approaches.\u00a0 As I alluded to in a prior post, there\u2019s kind of a dour feeling in my small little world as the days tick down towards\u00a0Nerdi Gras<\/em>.\u00a0 And it\u2019s coming from two specific parties: people who are part of the costuming community and\/or people who for whatever reason, cannot make it to Dragon*Con this year.<\/span><\/p>\n

But the point remains is that if people aren\u2019t fighting over opinions on what D*C is or is supposed to be, they\u2019re deciding that it\u2019s best if they let their own small little worlds know that they can\u2019t make it, and that\u00a0they\u2019re glad<\/em>.\u00a0 It\u2019s not being said, but there\u2019s an implied underlying hint of resentment that they\u2019re not going, and almost as if it\u2019s by result, they hope it\u2019s vastly below-par and less than satisfactory than if it were with their presences.<\/span><\/p>\n

As for the people in the costuming community that can\u2019t seem to get their heads out of their own asses, I\u2019m seeing a different, albeit no less interesting phenomenon going on amongst those whom are textually sparring.\u00a0 Person A makes snarky remark about a policy.\u00a0 Person B gives their\u00a0opinion<\/em>\u00a0that differs.\u00a0 Parties C-G gives opinions that mirror A, while H-N show up to provide snarky, all-caps esoteric sarcasm rebuttals.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know what usually happens next, because by this point I\u2019m usually hiding the conversation from my wall.<\/span><\/p>\n

Two hours later, Person B makes a passive-aggressive post on their own wall about how they\u2019re frustrated with an unnamed, yet obvious group of individuals.\u00a0 Person B\u2019s cohorts offer words of agreement and solidarity, and any opposed opinions from Person Z are immediately quelled by Person B\u2019s friends, until the process repeats itself on Person Z\u2019s small little world.<\/span><\/p>\n

I like to call this \u201cSeeking home field advantage<\/em>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The hypocritical irony about me writing about this occurrence isn\u2019t lost on me either, but only six people read my brog anyway, and I\u2019m pretty sure none of have been so narcissistic to involve themselves in any of the internet fights I\u2019m referring to.<\/span><\/p>\n

The bottom line is that as it pertains to my small little world, there\u2019s a lot of negative, lot of curmudgeon, and lots of wet blankets being thrown on an occasion that along with myself, thousands upon thousands of other people are looking forward to.\u00a0 I don\u2019t really know why they\u2019re doing it, but I can\u2019t help but look at such behaviors with the internet equivalent of a frown.\u00a0 A legitimate :-\/ face.<\/span><\/p>\n

In spite of the workload I\u2019ve imposed upon myself, I am still looking forward to D*C.\u00a0 It sucks and it\u2019s unfortunate that there are people I would like to see that I will not see, but I do not wish to let a couple of absences sour what I\u2019m hoping is still an entertaining and fruitful convention overall.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
