Impetus<\/a>: Atlanta-area Waffle House getting a 60 on sanitation score makes the news.<\/span><\/p>\n Yes, we\u2019re all very aware of the importance of sanitation scores in general, but this is also Waffle House we\u2019re talking about.\u00a0 Everyone who\u2019s ever been to Waffle House has their ironic stories about Waffle Houses; personally, I enjoy recalling the time I watched an elderly waitress set her cigarette down (this was obviously back when indoor smoking was still allowed) carefully at the end of the counter so she could take some patrons\u2019 orders, before proceeding to pick it back up and take a long drag after submitting her ticket.<\/span><\/p>\n The thing is though, and this should all be taken tongue-and-cheek obviously, but it\u2019s\u00a0Waffle House<\/em>\u00a0we\u2019re talking about here.\u00a0 A Waffle House that scores a 60 is like the Capital Grille scoring a 100.\u00a0 There\u2019s really only so much quality that\u2019s possible at a Waffle House, and expecting scores that are higher than a 60 is roughly the equivalent of wishing to win the lottery.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n I mean, who hasn\u2019t heard of the myth of putting jeans in the freezer?\u00a0 Clearly, the person who put their jacket in the ice machine at this Waffle House was just trying to de-funkify their jacket in a similar manner.\u00a0 Sure, there\u2019s the issue of their gross jacket touching all the ice that would be potentially served to patrons, but I\u2019m sure they were convinced that they could \u201cdig around it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Ultimately, I\u2019m not condoning a bad score, but at the same time, I think it\u2019s silly that it\u2019s newsworthy.\u00a0 Really now, a 60?\u00a0 That\u2019s like eating off a bleached table, compared to some of the horror story scores that I can recall.\u00a0 There\u2019s a ton of discreet, small Chinese joints scattered throughout the Metro Atlanta area that have scored in the 40s, 30s, and\u00a0in this case<\/a>, the 20s.\u00a0 I can\u2019t find the link to it, but there was once a place that literally scored 18;\u00a0out of 100<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n Hearing those scores, a 60 doesn\u2019t seem bad at all.<\/span><\/p>\n In the end, it\u2019s a Waffle House.\u00a0 Not Nobu, or Ruth\u2019s Chris.\u00a0 You know exactly what you\u2019re getting when you get to one, regardless of what kind of number is printed on a yellow sheet of paper and affixed to the wall.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Impetus: Atlanta-area Waffle House getting a 60 on sanitation score makes the news.
