{"id":40622,"date":"2015-06-12T12:21:09","date_gmt":"2015-06-12T16:21:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/totfc.net\/?p=40622"},"modified":"2020-07-16T12:21:23","modified_gmt":"2020-07-16T16:21:23","slug":"destruction-in-the-name-of-staying-relevant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/totfc.net\/?p=40622","title":{"rendered":"Destruction, in the name of staying relevant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"border-image alignnone wp-image-40623 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/totfc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Homer_and_Marge_in_Bed_Good_Night-e1434015703883.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"490\" height=\"275\" srcset=\"https:\/\/totfc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Homer_and_Marge_in_Bed_Good_Night-e1434015703883.png 490w, https:\/\/totfc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Homer_and_Marge_in_Bed_Good_Night-e1434015703883-300x168.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 490px) 100vw, 490px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/2015\/06\/10\/the-simpsons-homer-and-marge-separating-divorce-season-27\/\"><strong>Impetus:\u00a0<\/strong><\/a><em>Simpsons\u00a0<\/em>producer states in an interview that Homer and Marge Simpson will separate in an upcoming season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Knee-jerk reactions:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">The Simpsons are still on the air?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">The Simpsons are still relevant?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Did they not just notice\u00a0<em>Spider-Man\u00a0<\/em>comics basically redact and say &#8220;my bad&#8221; to their own terrible spousal separation storyline between Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Whatever though. \u00a0In spite of all the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2015\/6\/10\/8757937\/the-simpsons-divorce-marge-homer\">Comic Book Nerd analyses<\/a>\u00a0of how Homer and Marge are technically already separated and completely miss the point to their relationship and dynamic in the first place, it appears that the show is going to try and shake things up around the amazingly still-alive Simpsons universe, and have them separate-separate; in the sense that they will\u00a0<em>no longer will love and cherish each other,\u00a0<\/em>regardless of status legal union.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">As someone who likes to believe in the idea of true romance and love, this does make me a little bit melancholy. \u00a0Some people like to watch television to escape reality, not be reminded of how much it&#8217;s capable of sucking. \u00a0Cartoons, being not humanoid portrayal, make this line easier to distinguish, but the Simpsons are trying their best to blur it by running a break-up storyline and separating Homer and Marge.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Personally, I don&#8217;t like it, but then again, I didn&#8217;t like it when Marvel broke up Peter Parker and Mary Jane, and don&#8217;t really like hearing about any sort of divorces from any couple that ever looked like at any point, that they should be together forever.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">It seems really weak too, the idea of Homer leaving Marge for a pharmacist that&#8217;s apparently going to be voiced by Lena Dunham. \u00a0I know that she&#8217;s currently a popular flavor, riding the popularity of\u00a0<em>Girls<\/em>, but there&#8217;s no way Dunham stays on board for the long haul, as long as the actress\/writer herself has so much other things on her plate. \u00a0And in the end, we&#8217;ll have an animated sitcom about a broken family, with Marge probably being the odd woman out because the show is called the Simpsons and not\u00a0<em>The Bouviers.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Who really knows though? \u00a0I don&#8217;t know the full story, and frankly I probably won&#8217;t care enough to find out the rest of it. \u00a0Maybe Julie Kavner&#8217;s voice talents are getting to be too expensive for FOX, or maybe there was a fall out, leading to the inevitable phasing out of Marge, because let&#8217;s be real here, Homer is the carry of the show, and losing him would effectively kill the show outright. \u00a0Or perhaps the Simpsons are kind of doing this as a grasp at straws for attention, because this has legitimately got people talking about the show again, so there&#8217;s always the chance that they get people watching, only to pull the rug out from underneath us and don&#8217;t run it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Or perhaps, they learn from Spider-Man, and realize that ruining a relationship for the sake of trying to stir the pot isn&#8217;t necessarily always the great idea, and come up with some convoluted dream sequence or outlandish story arc that redacts it, or they make some elaborate win-back-Marge storyline for even later down in future to dust off once the novelty of the show grows old again.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Impetus:\u00a0Simpsons\u00a0producer states in an interview that Homer and Marge Simpson will separate in an upcoming season.
