Source<\/a>: Whitesboro, New York, votes to keep village\u2019s seal, despite allegations that it is racist, as it features a white man choking a Native American.<\/span><\/p>\n My first thought when I came across this story was that there was no way this could actually be true.\u00a0 No place in America could really be represented by such imagery, right?\u00a0 A white man choking a Native American, surely, there\u2019s nothing wrong with that?<\/span><\/p>\n I honestly thought this was a fake, The Onion-like satire post that was kind of trying to go the route of\u00a0Parks & Recreation<\/em>, and all of the horrifically\u00a0shameful murals all over Pawnee City Hall<\/a>.\u00a0 I mean, why wouldn\u2019t artwork of a white guy choking an Indian go hand-in-hand with public bare-knuckle fighting between men and women?<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Regardless, this village and its seal are amazingly, real.\u00a0 Naturally, one of the first inclinations of mine is to find out where Whitesboro is, to see if I\u2019ve ever been near it, or have any geographical understanding of it\u2019s location.\u00a0 Turns out, Whitesboro is not far from Syracuse, a place I\u2019ve been to a few times, but it\u2019s not surprising that it\u2019s upstate, and not anywhere near the New York that most people think about when they hear New York.<\/span><\/p>\n Suddenly, places like Whitesburg-Blacks Run-Lynchburg don\u2019t seem as blatant, in perspective.<\/span><\/p>\n The ironically humorous thing about this whole story is just how unapologetic the residents of Whitesboro seemingly are.\u00a0 \u201cOverwhelmingly\u201d opposed to changing of the seal (Around 75% against change), and mentions of residents who \u201cdon\u2019t care what others think,\u201d or the general opinion that the world is aspiring to be overly politically correct.<\/span><\/p>\n And then there\u2019s the hilariously poor attempts at denial, with an explanation of the imagery stating that it\u2019s more of a \u201cfriendly wrestling match\u201d between the village founder and the Oneida Indian.<\/span><\/p>\n But throughout all of this, this is very much, a true story.\u00a0 \u2018Murica.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Source: Whitesboro, New York, votes to keep village\u2019s seal, despite allegations that it is racist, as it features a white man choking a Native American.
