font-size: 12pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestreet.com\/story\/13609738\/1\/coca-cola-changed-its-iconic-cans-and-people-are-drinking-it-up.html?puc=yahoo&amp;cm_ven=YAHOO\">Long story short<\/a>: Coca-Cola experiencing boost in sales on light and zero-calorie soda in international markets after rolling out new can design for Coke products<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">My knee-jerk hypothesis is that people see all the red that saturates like 82% of these cans that they don\u2019t realize that they\u2019re purchasing Coke Light (Diet Coke) or Coke Zero until it\u2019s too late, and since merchants typically don\u2019t accept returns on opened containers, they\u2019re just kind of boned and have to deal with it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Maybe that was Coke\u2019s plan all along.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Who really knows what Coke\u2019s plan ultimately is.\u00a0 There are those who think regular Coke is the devil because they\u2019re solely counting calories.\u00a0 And then there are those who think Diet and Zero are the devil because of sodium and aspartame.\u00a0 This new experimental branding that has only been seen in Spain, Mexico and various parts of Europe seems to accomplishing this confusing effect that still retains each brand\u2019s parent colors, but puts a massive Coke-red blob on all the cans.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">In my experiences in consumer marketing, as callous as it is to say, the mentality is to assume that people do not pay attention to details and to make things as obvious as possible (with the underlying idea that people are fucking dumb).\u00a0 These cans kind of defeat that purpose, because they\u2019re forcing consumers to stop and actually examine the cans they\u2019re picking up, lest they end up getting the brand of Coca-Cola that they had not actually intended to consume.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">However, if Coke is exploring an idea of \u201cOne Brand\u201d as the aforementioned link references, perhaps ambiguity is all part of the plan.\u00a0 Perhaps, it\u2019s leading up to the ultimate of cost-cutting measures, and <a href=\"http:\/\/vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net\/simpsons\/images\/4\/45\/Duff_lite_%26_dry.png\/revision\/latest?cb=20121216015210\">simplification throughout the product<\/a> outright.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Regardless, as an occasional Diet Coke and its poisonous aspartame drinker, I don\u2019t really feel like I\u2019m going to be affected, unless I go into other countries.\u00a0 The Diet Coke name and brand is so strong in United States, that it would kind of be difficult to integrate it into this kind of look, since the Diet Coke <a href=\"http:\/\/vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net\/logopedia\/images\/9\/92\/Diet_Coke_LOGO_2014.jpg\/revision\/latest?cb=20140603041532\">wordmark itself<\/a> is a logo in itself that\u2019s referred to as the nickname \u201cCoke\u201d and not the proper \u201cCoca-Cola.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora;
