font-size: 12pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ajc.com\/sports\/atlanta-united-unveils-inaugural-jersey\/9KCo3ZTjOglV8cfyeyz7LJ\/\">Atlanta United FC unveils their official team uniforms<\/a>, they turn out to be red with black stripes \u2013 almost <a href=\"http:\/\/totfc.net\/?p=40701\">entirely how I had predicted<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Don\u2019t get me wrong, black and red is a cool color combination.\u00a0 Very hard, very urban, kind of counter-culture.\u00a0 Black denotes something a little bad, rebellious, with a dark side.\u00a0 Everything goes with black.\u00a0 Black and red is the nWo Wolfpac, the supposed cool nWo, as opposed to the old fogey Hulk Hogan led black and white nWo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">But black and red is also the same color combination used by the University of Georgia and the Atlanta Falcons.\u00a0 I\u2019m pretty sure the Atlanta Hawks have at least one alternate uniform that\u2019s black and red.\u00a0 If it were even remotely justifiable, there\u2019s absolutely no doubt that the Atlanta Braves and Georgia Tech would bust out a black and red alternate uni if they could.\u00a0 If Mitchell &amp; Ness actually make hockey apparel, they\u2019re probably already trying to figure out how to incorporate black and red Thrashers merch as throwbacks to the now-Winnipeg Jets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Black and red is old hat, played out, overdone, here in Atlanta.\u00a0 Lining everything in gold trim doesn\u2019t change the fact that all anyone will primarily see are blacks and reds whenever Atlanta United FC is playing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Not only is black and red played out in the city, black and red is kind of played out in the <em>entire sport <\/em>of <em>futbol<\/em>.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t take a Google wizard to seek out a query such as \u201cblack red stripe soccer uniform\u201d to reveal that at least three other soccer clubs throughout the world have basically used the exact same red and black stripe based uniform: <a href=\"http:\/\/totfc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/ac-milan-home-jersey-2015-16-blog.jpg\">AC Milan<\/a> (Italy), <a href=\"http:\/\/totfc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/leaked-manchester-city-16-17-away-kit-2.jpg\">Manchester City<\/a> (UK) and even a fellow MLS team, formerly known as the <a href=\"http:\/\/totfc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/metrostars.jpg\">New York MetroStars<\/a>, used the red and black striped uniforms.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">It\u2019s almost like there were extra MetroStars uniforms stashed away in some MLS storage unit, and when word came out that Atlanta was interested in black and red, MLS pounced at the opportunity to recoup some losses and repurpose old jerseys.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">It\u2019s kind of like how after the Washington Bullets traded away <a href=\"http:\/\/l3.yimg.com\/ny\/api\/res\/1.2\/6h7KDQJksOzIPbS9sZ2Qgg--\/YXBwaWQ9aGlnaGxhbmRlcjtzbT0xO3c9NjMwO2g9NDc0O2lsPXBsYW5l\/http:\/media.zenfs.com\/en\/blogs\/sptusnbaexperts\/RW19962713.jpg\">Rasheed Wallace<\/a> and then drafted <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tradingcarddb.com\/Images\/Cards\/Basketball\/2480\/2480-268Fr.jpg\">Ben Wallace<\/a> in 1997, and coincidentally gave him #30; it saved money!\u00a0 (I wonder what the conversation was like in 2004 when <a href=\"https:\/\/s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com\/236x\/d5\/35\/58\/d535585664f2b526d42697cc568e9464.jpg\">they both landed<\/a> on the Pistons)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">But anyway, in spite of all the rhetoric from Arthur Blank, KaseemsLikeWeNeedMoreNewStadiums Reed, and any other paid talking heads to spread the good word about Atlanta United FC, there is no diversity, there is no auto-association with the team with these uniforms.\u00a0 How can there be diversity, when they\u2019re the same colors as two of the other most prominent sports franchises in the city?\u00a0 How can there be association when they\u2019re practically visually identical to at least two active franchises in the most globally recognized sport on the planet?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">If genuine uniqueness was the goal, why not make the team colors like, pink and lavender or something?\u00a0 They might not sell great to consumers, but imagine the anxiety and pressure to opposing players, not wanting to lose to the team with such effeminate colors?\u00a0 Winning the battle before the battle is half the battle in sport.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">I also like how in spite of all the massive major companies based or present in Atlanta, Atlanta United FC couldn\u2019t get any one of them to be their chief primary sponsor, leading to American Family Insurance to be the primary sponsor on their jerseys.\u00a0 Sure, there\u2019s debate about how companies like Coke and Delta being a little too global to put on a regional team, and The Home Depot won\u2019t typically touch anything that\u2019s not willing to integrate some orange into their look.\u00a0 But there are companies like ScumTrust and Chick-Fil-A that are Atlanta-based that could have been primary sponsor.\u00a0 Hell, if fucking Chevrolet, an American-car maker can be the primary sponsor for <a href=\"https:\/\/usatftw.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/07\/screen-shot-2014-07-07-at-8-28-20-am.png?w=1000\">England\u2019s most prominent club<\/a>, why couldn\u2019t like, Kia, who has a gigantic presence in Georgia, be the primary sponsor for Atlanta?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">lol, American Family Insurance.\u00a0 I wonder where they rank compared to like State Farm and Allstate?\u00a0 Apparently <a href=\"https:\/\/usinsuranceagents.com\/reviews\/american-family\/\">third<\/a>.\u00a0 Seems appropriate though.\u00a0 A third rate company to sponsor what will inevitably be a third rate soccer franchise playing in a third rate futbol league.\u00a0 Ironically, that being said, I would still wager money that this team will win a championship before the Falcons, Hawks or Braves do, because sports are funny like that.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora;
