font-size: 12pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ajc.com\/news\/local\/grandson-avondale-estates-founder-approves-language-change-signs\/Q2cX7goQBRhjnj52zmhhsJ\/\">Somehow this is news<\/a>: Avondale Estates to change the verbiage on park signs, because they seem too mean<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Avondale Estates is an interesting part of town.\u00a0 They\u2019re technically within Metro Atlanta proper, because they\u2019re within I-285.\u00a0 But they\u2019re also in Decatur, which is often known as practically something of a liberal hippie commune, so absorbed in their own want to not be associated with Atlanta, that they almost take a sadistic pride in how difficult it is to get in and out of their little segment of town and how much the traffic sucks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Needless to say, exclusion and exclusivity is a concept that isn\u2019t lost to Decatur on a regular basis, so it\u2019s amusing to me that there\u2019s controversy over a sign that promotes even more exclusion and exclusivity within an individual neighborhood within Decatur.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Frankly, I don\u2019t see anything wrong with a park dictating rules that the park is meant for those who actually live in the community.\u00a0 I\u2019d be peeved if people who don\u2019t live in the community trying to reap the benefits of a nice park that my tax dollars are going to, especially if they\u2019re all disrespectful, uncivilized and uncouth and shit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">The fact that there\u2019s any outcry at all about this is kind of indicative to just how big of pussies society has become.\u00a0 Oh noes, people who don\u2019t contribute to the community aren\u2019t technically allowed to be here!\u00a0 This is the kind of complaint that goes in line with terminology such as \u201csafe spaces,\u201d and the increasing power and intensity bullying is being given.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">But what set me off about this was the AJC\u2019s injected narrative that somehow, this is potentially racist:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Commissioners now seem to agree that part of the language on those signs are archaic at best, and at worst unwelcome and perhaps racially charged.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Racially charged?\u00a0 What, in the wording of \u201cof the residents of the city of Avondale Estates\u201d has absolutely anything to do with the color of anyone\u2019s skin?\u00a0 It\u2019s no secret that north of Memorial Drive, Decatur becomes whiter than the Kentucky Derby, and within Decatur, Avondale Estates turns into The North Face store, but it\u2019s a no-win situation to make an accusatory hypothesis about racism with such a poorly injected narrative.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Either Avondale Estates acknowledges the flagrant racial divide between them, Decatur and the rest of Atlanta, by addressing the language on the sign, or they continue to look like exclusive snobs by ignoring the situation and having written proof of just how much they love exclusivity.\u00a0 Seeing as how the sign is being addressed by the grandson of the founder of Avondale Estates, it looks like the former.\u00a0 But I do like this little dig:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">But I also don\u2019t find the language off-putting.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">It\u2019s basically saying \u201cI\u2019ll address the sign because people are bitching about it, but I really don\u2019t see what all the fuss is actually about.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora;
