{"id":44321,"date":"2016-12-29T21:57:54","date_gmt":"2016-12-30T01:57:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/totfc.net\/?p=44321"},"modified":"2020-07-28T21:58:04","modified_gmt":"2020-07-29T01:58:04","slug":"lol-curbed-hipsters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/totfc.net\/?p=44321","title":{"rendered":"lol Curbed hipsters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"border-image alignnone wp-image-44322 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/totfc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/collegeparklol.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"510\" height=\"287\" srcset=\"https:\/\/totfc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/collegeparklol.jpg 510w, https:\/\/totfc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/collegeparklol-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 510px) 100vw, 510px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Occasionally, I like reading <a href=\"http:\/\/atlanta.curbed.com\/\">Curbed<\/a>.\u00a0 Sure, the writing is a little biased, the commenters are amongst the most pretentious on the planet, but sometimes, it\u2019s a nice way to see other neighborhoods and parts of town that I might not be so aware of.\u00a0 At the end of each year, Curbed does this thing called <em>The Curbed Cup<\/em>, and they like to poll readers to determine, what the best neighborhood in the region is.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Previous winners in Atlanta aren\u2019t any real surprises; Inman Park, Old Fourth Ward, Kirkwood, Reynoldstown; these are areas rife with pretty successful gentrification and are appropriately densely packed with hipsters, new money, and hipsters with new money.\u00a0 Last year\u2019s winner was a little bit of a head-scratcher; the West End, which to anyone who isn\u2019t familiar with the area, it\u2019s basically the region of town that is literally on the other side of the tracks, that is full of blight, crime, unoccupied and dilapidated homes and more crime.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">There\u2019s no denying that the potential of the West End is grandiose if it could ever actually be successfully cleaned, reset, and developed appropriately, as it sits on a lot of prime real estate that the burgeoning Atlanta real estate market would salivate over, if it were remotely usable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">But anointing it as the best Atlanta neighborhood of 2015 was quite the head-scratcher, and I would wager money that bloggers and snarky internet commenters could write essays on how great the West End is in their opinion, but they wouldn\u2019t be able to say NO fast enough, if they were asked if they would actually live there.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">That\u2019s the kind of place the West End really is.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Which leads us to this year\u2019s Atlanta Curbed Cup, where the final two neighborhoods have been named: East Atlanta, an area loaded with hipsters, a robust dining scene, but a pretty scary amount of crime, and . . . College Park.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">For starters, College Park could barely be considered an Atlanta neighborhood.\u00a0 It\u2019s literally the last commuter stop on MARTA, and depending on traffic is anywhere from 20-60 minutes outside of downtown Atlanta.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Second, this is <em>the same<\/em> College Park that has been known for decades by locals, to be a hot bed of crime and criminal activity.\u00a0 If you looked at College Park on a Sim City map, this would be the region of the map that glowed red, and only a massive influx of police stations being dropped every four units would have any hope in hell at bringing it down.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Seriously, googling \u201ccollege park ga crime\u201d resulted in the following screen grab, instantaneously.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">And then, clicking the first two links in the search results <a href=\"https:\/\/www.roadsnacks.net\/most-dangerous-places-in-georgia\/\">brings up articles<\/a> that show a laundry <a href=\"https:\/\/www.neighborhoodscout.com\/ga\/college-park\/crime\/\">list of statistics<\/a> and comparisons to the national median that describe just how bad the crime is in College Park, Georgia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">The point is College Park is a ghetto.\u00a0 It\u2019s a ghetto that even those who live in other ghettos hear \u201cCollege Park,\u201d and the first word out of their mouths are \u201cghetto.\u201d\u00a0 People who live in West End would go \u201ceww\u201d if asked to move to College Park.\u00a0 At least in the West End, you\u2019re close to city conveniences, even if you need a Kevlar vest to safely live in either ghetto.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Yet, it\u2019s also a finalist for Curbed Atlanta\u2019s neighborhood of the year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">I hope it wins.
