Football fans love to waste money<\/a>: group of New Orleans Saints fans want to troll the Atlanta Falcons and its new Mercedes-Benz Stadium by renting billboard space across the street, mocking the 28-3 lead the Falcons had in the Super Bowl before suffering the biggest collapse ever<\/span><\/p>\n

I often say that I\u2019m ambivalent towards football, and that I\u2019m not really a fan of the Atlanta Falcons.\u00a0 To some degree, I do stand by such claims, but I\u2019m not going to lie that I felt absolutely crushed, heartbroken and completely demoralized by the result of the 2016 Super Bowl Lee, when the Falcons had a gigantic lead, and choked it all away, suffering the mother of defeats to Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.<\/span><\/p>\n

I chalk up my frustration and disappointment not so much because the Falcons lost, but the City of Atlanta<\/em> lost, an opportunity to shed the notion that as a sports town, it\u2019s full of teams that always choke, and actually win a major sporting championship.\u00a0 Instead, they swing the pendulum full retard and go from having victory all but guaranteed, to being defeated in the most gut-wrenching, most-Atlanta way ever.<\/span><\/p>\n

Needless to say, I do admit that the Falcons\u2019 loss really upset me, and thinking back to Super Bowl Lee isn\u2019t the easiest thing for me to do as a sports fan.<\/span><\/p>\n

That being said, I really dislike the idea that these Saints fans are plotting, because it makes people like me, and actual Falcons fans have to be constantly reminded of the close call that got away, and frankly, the closest the franchise has ever gotten to a Super Bowl championship that they may never have the opportunity to get again, given the crapshoot that is the NFL unless you\u2019re Tom Brady.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, I have to respect the sheer dedication to trolling that these guys are going towards, because at $1,000 a week to have this proposed billboard up, that\u2019s a lot of scratch going towards absolutely nothing at all, except to grief fair-weather Atlanta sports fans.\u00a0 And to be willing to haphazardly spend that much money for god-only-knows how long, is a true dedication to trolling; I never said it was smart, or remotely close to intelligent, but if the money is there, it\u2019s their business if all they want to do is troll.<\/span><\/p>\n

But in all seriousness, $1,000 a week could go to absolutely so many more productive things than griefing others.\u00a0 Home improvements.\u00a0 Feeding others.\u00a0 Simply making other people happy instead of miserable.\u00a0 The list of things that could be accomplished with $1,000 a week is nearly endless compared to the single goal of aggravating Falcons fans.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is where I\u2019d like to point out the lack of success by the Saints, but I really can\u2019t, considering the fact that the team has actually won a Super Bowl within the last decade.\u00a0 Not only do they hold the advantage over the Falcons in Super Bowls, but they also have the advantageous position of being able to smugly troll from a safe height, that not even winning head-to-heads can absolve.<\/span><\/p>\n

I guess it just really does suck to be a Falcons fan, or someone who just wants to see Atlanta achieve some modicum of sports glory and national relief, and until the monkey is gotten off the back, we\u2019ll always be subject to such easy victimization.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
