{"id":46465,"date":"2019-01-19T13:24:46","date_gmt":"2019-01-19T17:24:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/totfc.net\/?p=46465"},"modified":"2020-08-10T13:24:58","modified_gmt":"2020-08-10T17:24:58","slug":"i-love-that-free-agents-are-getting-owned","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/totfc.net\/?p=46465","title":{"rendered":"I love that free agents are getting owned"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"border-image alignnone wp-image-46466 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/totfc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/harper_fail.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"510\" height=\"287\" srcset=\"https:\/\/totfc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/harper_fail.jpg 510w, https:\/\/totfc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/harper_fail-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 510px) 100vw, 510px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/story\/_\/id\/25797148\/kris-bryant-chicago-cubs-frustrated-unsigned-bryce-harper-manny-machado\">QQ moar<\/a>: Chicago Cubs\u2019 Kris Bryant publicly whines about how free agents are not getting signed as Spring Training gets closer and closer<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">First off, shut the fuck up, Kris Bryant.\u00a0 You\u2019re not even a free agent yet.\u00a0 I understand why he\u2019s complaining now, because he\u2019s going to be a free agent in a year or two, I don\u2019t care enough to check to see how many years of arbitration he has left, and he wants to make sure that when he hits the market, things won\u2019t be like they are today, where free agents are absolutely getting taken to the toolshed for the second year in a row, and are not getting the absurd and ridiculous multi-million dollar contracts that nerds on the internet once said that they were all entitled to getting for their past performances.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">But the thing is, Bryant is airing out his grievances under the guise of pretending like he cares about his fellow baseball players, namely the notable free agents whom are pretty much all still unsigned and have no definitive future currently, despite the fact that they\u2019re absolutely going to get signed by someone, because their talents are inevitably going to be coveted by someone out there.\u00a0 They might not get the $400 million people think some of them are worth in a contract, but I\u2019m fairly confident nobody is going to shed any tears for them when they\u2019re still going to sign for like $250 million.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Dollars.\u00a0 Hundreds of millions of dollars.\u00a0 That\u2019s what some of these baseball players are going to sign for, all for being really good at playing a children\u2019s game.\u00a0 You\u2019ll have to excuse me, and anyone else with a brain for not feeling sorry for baseball players who aren\u2019t going to get $300 million, but are still going to make $175 million dollars for being good at swinging a bat or throwing a baseball.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">As I always say, I love baseball, more than any other sport, but it doesn\u2019t take a genius to understand that the salaries in baseball, as well as any other professional sport, are pretty out of hand these days, and I refuse to feel sorry or have any empathy for any professional athlete for not getting many-many millions of dollars, but are still getting many millions of dollars.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Frankly, I still think that there are far more occupations in the world that are <em>just a little bit<\/em> more important than professional athletes, like doctors and teachers, people who actually have the power to make differences in the world, as opposed to people who play kids games at high levels and provide a few hours of spectator entertainment occasionally.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">The Bryce Harper and Manny Machado sweepstakes are absurd, with each player having been expected to net anywhere from $300-400 million dollar contracts, all because they\u2019re young and good at baseball.\u00a0 I\u2019m relishing in the fact that the trend from last year, where free agents were shunned and had their prices driven into the ground before tucking their tails between their legs and signing for \u201cunder\u201d market predictions, but actually getting worse, or better, depending on how you\u2019re looking at it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lora; font-size: 12pt;\">Last year, Eric Hosmer and J.D.
