Came across this article<\/a> about a restaurant opening up; named \u201cBlack Gurl Brunch Club.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Pretty sure if any other demographic attempted to utilize a similar hierarchy, there would be some heads rolling.\u00a0 White Guy Steakhouse, Latinas Tacos and Empanadas, Korean Guy Soju Shack and Bollywood Girl Street Food would probably wrinkle some eyebrows and ruffle a few feathers, if people from those respective demographics attempted to open businesses with such ludicrous names.<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite the restaurant\u2019s claim that the restaurant is \u201cfor everyone:\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Though Black Gurl Brunch Club\u2019s name highlights a specific demographic group, Lavender said the restaurant itself is meant for everyone.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe majority of our fan base is black women,\u201d she said. \u201cSo we wanted to be appreciative of that. Young black women are alienated a lot, so we wanted them to feel comfortable here. But the restaurant is about everyone coming together to celebrate each other. Everyone is welcoming, and everyone is welcome.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

When you use a name that sounds like<\/em> you\u2019re only welcoming a specific demographic, you\u2019re basically pigeon-holing your expected demographic, and probably going to automatically scare off most people not in it, from ever visiting.\u00a0 Most people aren\u2019t going to check a website or social media to see if they\u2019re allowed to come in, they\u2019re just not going to come in.\u00a0 I\u2019d wager that is somewhat of a calculated expectation, and they\u2019re saying they welcome all just to cover their bases, but in the end, it\u2019s really a place meant for black gurls.<\/span><\/p>\n

And the thing is, the food on their site looks good as hell.\u00a0 Stuff I\u2019d definitely want to try and eat.\u00a0 But since I\u2019m neither black, nor a gurl, I wouldn\u2019t want to go to a place called Black Gurl Brunch Club and try and find out, but I guess that\u2019s the point.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ultimately, this is just a perfect example of the double standard that exists in America where black people are allowed to blatantly flaunt and passively discriminate, and nobody says anything about it, because there\u2019s so much fear of black people backlash and black guilt out there and it doesn\u2019t seem like it\u2019s ever, ever going to dissipate.\u00a0 It\u2019s pathetically laughable at how ridiculous it all is.<\/span><\/p>\n

If any other race out there even tried to do something like indicate any sort of preferred customer demographic, there would be so many internet pitchforks and social justice warriors mobilized, that Twitter would probably go down from all the faux rage.<\/span><\/p>\n

The irony is that did they even really need to name it something so obnoxious?\u00a0 They\u2019re in College Park, the restaurant would have had enough non-black person-repellant just by existing in College Park, regardless of what the name was.\u00a0 But giving it a racist name on top of being in College Park is basically like putting hot sauce on top of insanity wings, and just reinforcing just how much they don\u2019t want non-black people to come visit.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
