{"id":46823,"date":"2020-01-28T22:03:16","date_gmt":"2020-01-29T02:03:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/totfc.net\/?p=46823"},"modified":"2020-08-12T22:03:26","modified_gmt":"2020-08-13T02:03:26","slug":"randy-orton-is-the-wwes-friend-zone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/totfc.net\/?p=46823","title":{"rendered":"Randy Orton is the WWE\u2019s Friend Zone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"border-image alignnone wp-image-46824 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/totfc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/edge_orton.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"510\" height=\"287\" srcset=\"https:\/\/totfc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/edge_orton.jpg 510w, https:\/\/totfc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/edge_orton-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 510px) 100vw, 510px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">It\u2019s not often where I feel like I\u2019ve hit an analogy home run, but I think I hit the nail on the head with this one.\u00a0 After watching Edge\u2019s return to the ring in the Royal Rumble, and the subsequent segment on RAW the night afterward, where he was brutally attacked by Randy Orton, it dawned on me much like the sun rising: <em>Randy Orton is basically the friend zone for WWE wrestlers<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">I feel like the analogy works so perfectly, because not just in the case of Edge, but any wrestler who has the unfortunate situation of being put into a program with Randy Orton, they have to know it\u2019s a dead-end feud with no gain to be had from doing it, much like any sad schlub of a guy who thinks they have a chance with a girl, but get put into the friend zone, and they\u2019re the only ones who don\u2019t realize that they\u2019re in it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Randy Orton has just enough name and face value to where anyone stashed with him retains some degree of relevance, but he doesn\u2019t have enough of either to really elevate them beyond the holding pen point of relevance.\u00a0 He\u2019s basically keeping budding stars warm, but for guys that are trying to re-climb the mountain, or in the case of Edge, come back and rise through the ranks, a feud with Orton is literally being put into the friend zone, where there is no happy ending in sight, but he\u2019ll still work like hell trying to prove something, because he doesn\u2019t realize that he\u2019s in the friend zone.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">I mean, just look at the last few guys Orton has been paired up with: AJ Styles\u2019 went nowhere working with Orton. Kofi Kingston not only didn\u2019t go anywhere, all the momentum he had from Kofimania came to a slow stop, and not long after vanquishing Randy Orton, ended up jobbing to Brock Lesnar in 4 seconds to drop the WWE Championship.\u00a0 It\u2019s debatable that it wouldn\u2019t have mattered who he was paired up against, but Jeff Hardy fell off the wagon after working with Orton.\u00a0 Rusev will never get a main event push in the WWE, and working with Orton couldn\u2019t have helped that cause, and the list goes on and on, really.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">But it really sucks for Edge, considering the nine years he\u2019s been away from the business, and as soon as he gets back, he\u2019s thrust into a feud with Randy Orton.\u00a0 I mean, this is a feud that could have just as easily happened back in 2011, and in fact have faced each other before several times in the past.\u00a0 But in a company that\u2019s chock full of young guys and guys from different companies, you\u2019d think they\u2019d try and pair Edge up with any one of them before Randy Orton.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">I\u2019d imagine Edge could do good things with talent like AJ Styles or Samoa Joe, two guys who were tearing it up TNA during Edge\u2019s peak.\u00a0 Younger guys like Ricochet or Andrade could probably revitalize Edge to some degree, and just about every Canadian on the roster like Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn or Bobby Roode would probably look to have programs with Edge.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">But instead, Edge gets saddled with Randy Orton, put firmly into the friend zone.\u00a0 For the next two months, Edge will invigorate crowds and audiences happy to see the comeback tour, but then be put to sleep by Randy Orton\u2019s slow and methodical and slow promos, ring work and existence.\u00a0 We\u2019ll see some RKOs out of nowhere, and unfortunately Edge\u2019s return to Wrestlemania will probably be against Orton, instead of like Sami Zayn or Dolph Ziggler, since every trip to the friend zone usually ends up taking two months.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Don\u2019t get me wrong, Randy Orton does deserve a degree of respect for all he\u2019s accomplished in his career, and how in spite of his age (39), he\u2019s still in tremendous physical shape.\u00a0 But it still goes without saying that he\u2019s enjoyed a tremendously protected career through his birthright, and there have been plenty of comparable talent that have been tossed to the curb in favor of Orton, despite the fact that he hasn\u2019t changed his gimmick in like 15 years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Orton will probably not win many more world championships (at least in the WWE), but it\u2019s becoming agonizing just how much of a metaphorical cockblock he\u2019s become over the last decade.\u00a0 I imagine the WWE sees him like a Jake the Snake type in the hierarchy of the roster, as a guy that sets people up for more prominent programs, but the difference is that Jake had the ability to make people stars whereas Orton does not.\u00a0 Instead, he locks them up in the friend zone for two months at a time, and much like the real thing, things only get better once they manage to spring themselves out of it.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s not often where I feel like I\u2019ve hit an analogy home run, but I think I hit the nail on the head with this one.\u00a0 After watching Edge\u2019s return to the ring in the Royal Rumble, and the subsequent segment on RAW the night afterward, where he was brutally attacked by Randy Orton, it &hellip;
