{"id":47994,"date":"2021-06-29T10:12:52","date_gmt":"2021-06-29T15:12:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/totfc.net\/?p=47994"},"modified":"2021-06-29T10:12:52","modified_gmt":"2021-06-29T15:12:52","slug":"2-under-2-self-fulfilling-prophecy-048","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/totfc.net\/?p=47994","title":{"rendered":"2 Under 2: Self-fulfilling prophecy (#048)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"border-image alignnone wp-image-47995 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/totfc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/stuffed_car.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"510\" height=\"286\" srcset=\"https:\/\/totfc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/stuffed_car.jpg 510w, https:\/\/totfc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/stuffed_car-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 510px) 100vw, 510px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">When my older sister had children, she explained to me one day that doing anything with toddlers is basically a game of 15-minute chunks of time.\u00a0 An ordinary run to the grocery store or a trip to Target which would ordinarily not take a tremendous amount of time has its time multiplied several times over due to the necessity of preparation to accommodate a toddler(s).\u00a0 Naturally I understand, but it was one of those things that I hoped that when I had my own kid(s), if it was something that I might be able to improve upon or be more efficient with, because I\u2019m always all for trying to find out how to make processes more efficient.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Over the weekend, we decided to take my child to the pool.\u00a0 In spite of the weather, the skies opened up, the sun was bursting, and it looked like a scene right out of a Disney opening sequence.\u00a0 So with the pool decided, the clock began ticking for preparing for a seemingly pedestrian trip to the neighborhood pool:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Put child in swimsuit<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Put on our own swimsuits<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Sunscreen child<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Sunscreen ourselves<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Bring snack for child<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Bring drinks for ourselves<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Is child\u2019s inflatable inflated?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">No, need to inflate<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Pack pool bag<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Mythical wife wants to take a smoothie to the pool<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Need to prepare smoothie<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Blender sounds scare child, need to calm her<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">25 minutes later, we\u2019re in the car on the way to the pool. \u00a0Our window to enjoy the pool limited to the next daily milestone, which would be dinner at 5:20 for child.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">But, as we pull into the pool lot, I see the first drips of precipitation on my windshield.\u00a0 Undeterred, I say it\u2019s just light sprinkles, and we get out of the car and prepare to go poolside, and wait under umbrellas if it gets any worse.\u00a0 As I lift the hatch to my car to start unloading, the sky just decides to say fuck you, and suddenly it\u2019s raining again, despite there being no clouds in the sky.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Trip to the pool dashed, we crankily went back home, with no pool enjoyment to be had.\u00a0 My afternoon was effectively dashed and I was agitated the rest of the afternoon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Frankly, this is hardly the first time that the game of 15-25 minutes just to execute has come into play, but it was definitely a prime example of how it affected things so immediately, and in spite of my desires to be a more efficient and higher executing parent, it\u2019s a steep climb to not fall into the same pitfalls that all other parents probably do.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When my older sister had children, she explained to me one day that doing anything with toddlers is basically a game of 15-minute chunks of time.\u00a0 An ordinary run to the grocery store or a trip to Target which would ordinarily not take a tremendous amount of time has its time multiplied several times over &hellip;
