{"id":48342,"date":"2021-12-29T21:56:00","date_gmt":"2021-12-30T02:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/totfc.net\/?p=48342"},"modified":"2021-12-29T21:56:00","modified_gmt":"2021-12-30T02:56:00","slug":"2-under-2-the-time-has-finally-come-077","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/totfc.net\/?p=48342","title":{"rendered":"2 Under 2: The time has finally come (#077)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"border-image alignnone wp-image-48343 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/totfc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/pottybear.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"510\" height=\"287\" srcset=\"https:\/\/totfc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/pottybear.jpg 510w, https:\/\/totfc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/pottybear-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 510px) 100vw, 510px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">If there was ever a particular parenting milestone that I wasn\u2019t really looking forward to, I\u2019d guess that I would be joined by millions of parents out in the world who also dread the inevitable time for potty training.\u00a0 Obviously, the end goal is of the greatest achievement, being the liberation of needing to change diapers, but the vast majority of parents probably don\u2019t have a second baby already in tow that will need to remain in diapers for the better part of the next 15-16 months regardless.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">All the same, the time has come in which mythical wife and I have embarked on the beginning stages of potty training #1.\u00a0 We\u2019re taking the approach of trying to train in stages, with the first stage being cordoning our child off into a segment of the house where we can monitor and observe behavior and seek out patterns, as well as have a safe surface that will get peed on, a whole lot.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Two days in and my daughter has accomplished to get some urine into the bowl of her training potty, as well as drop a few turds into the bowl, but it\u2019s going about as well as I\u2019d imagined it would: more failure than success, tons of paper towels being used, and me wondering just when in my life things will ever begin to feel simple again.\u00a0 Mythical wife reminded me that we\u2019re parents now, which is to say, that probably never.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">This isn\u2019t to say that I\u2019m miserable doing it, but I\u2019d be lying that it isn\u2019t exhausting work in a variety of ways.\u00a0 It\u2019s physically demanding because I\u2019m constantly in a squat but can\u2019t sit, because I have to be able to spring up at a moment\u2019s notice to usher my kid to the trainer when she inevitably breaks the seal and begins gushing like a hose periodically, and I\u2019m often bent and crouched, and considering I haven\u2019t worked out in nearly two years, I\u2019m physically getting wrecked.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">It\u2019s also yet another emotional milestone in which I\u2019m realizing just how fast my first child really is growing, leading me to be all Soun Tendo emotional dad when I stop and think about it.\u00a0 Honestly, I\u2019ve been changing diapers for so long now that it\u2019s just kind of like second nature to me, and it\u2019s not something that\u2019s ever really bothered me, so I\u2019m kind of in this mindset that I\u2019d rather stick to the simplicity of diapers versus the hard fucking work of potty training, regardless of the inevitable win that the latter really is in comparison.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">But my first little girl is growing up, and it\u2019s potty training today, and then teaching her to drive a stick shift tomorrow, with trying to teach financial responsibility all the time in between.\u00a0 However, until then, there\u2019s going to be a whole lot of toddler excrement in the coming days.
