{"id":49372,"date":"2023-05-17T09:05:35","date_gmt":"2023-05-17T14:05:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/totfc.net\/?p=49372"},"modified":"2023-05-18T09:05:43","modified_gmt":"2023-05-18T14:05:43","slug":"im-surprised-it-survived-this-long-honestly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/totfc.net\/?p=49372","title":{"rendered":"I\u2019m surprised it survived this long, honestly"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"border-image alignnone wp-image-49373 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/totfc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/cfa_jonsnow.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"293\" srcset=\"https:\/\/totfc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/cfa_jonsnow.jpg 560w, https:\/\/totfc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/cfa_jonsnow-300x157.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsbtv.com\/news\/local\/first-ever-chick-fil-a-restaurant-location-is-closing-this-weekfor-good\/7KG4QLO2QRAZFALROSPIHFB6T4\/\">TIL<\/a>: The Greenbriar Mall Chick fil-A was the first-ever Chick fil-A opened, in 1967.\u00a0 But it\u2019s closing for good now<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">I did know that a large part of the original expansion for Chick fil-A\u2019s strategy was to get themselves into mall food courts, like they did at Greenbriar Mall.\u00a0 I remember the first time I ever encountered a Chick fil-A, it was at Landmark Mall in Alexandria, Virginia and like most kids embarking on a journey towards childhood obesity, the main standout was the fact that they had waffle fries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">But it\u2019s interesting to learn that the very first Chick fil-A that was opened was in Greenbriar Mall, and it\u2019s even more fascinating to know how it has managed to survived throughout the passage of time, because the passage of time hasn\u2019t been particularly kind to Greenbriar Mall.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Since I\u2019ve lived in Georgia, Greenbriar Mall hasn\u2019t exactly been known for the best of things, and off the top of my head the greatest (read: not greatest) hits are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Former home to the only Magic Johnson theater on the east coast which ultimately succumbed to the increase of crime and shenanigans and closed down<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">One of the hottest areas on <a href=\"https:\/\/crimegrade.org\/safest-places-in-atlanta-ga-metro\/\">crime heat maps<\/a> in the entire Metro Atlanta area<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Where a massive flock of sneakerheads <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/05\/03\/crowds-gather-to-buy-new-air-jordan-sneakers-in-atlanta-after-lockdown-lifted\/\">gathered in the middle of the pandemic<\/a> for the release of the latest Air Jordans, garnering global ridicule<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Needless to say, I didn\u2019t even know that a Chick Fil-A was in the mall and yes I have been there before, because it was pretty much where the last Circuit City in the area was, and I have gone a few times in the past to get computer shit.\u00a0 But it\u2019s safe to say that Greenbriar Mall was basically the inspiration for Chris Rock\u2019s entire routine about black malls, and even Donald Glover\u2019s <em>Atlanta<\/em> show acknowledged it as much.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">But considering the company as a whole is extremely guarded and calculated with their locations, I\u2019m amazed to have learned that they stuck it out for over 50 years in that location.\u00a0 I\u2019m assuming that history had something to do with their staunch tenacity at staying put, plus the fact that since the company is based in nearby Hapeville\/College Park, there\u2019s something about keeping the OGs intact as long as possible.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">However, there\u2019s no denying the unsatisfactory area that Greenbriar Mall and surrounding area have become throughout time, and I can\u2019t say I\u2019m the least bit surprised to hear that they\u2019re shuttering the location.\u00a0 I\u2019m more surprised that they managed to last 50 years there, so at this point, it\u2019s not really so much a sad departure, as much as it\u2019s kind of like a sort of honorable death from the Night\u2019s Watch.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">And now their watch is over.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TIL: The Greenbriar Mall Chick fil-A was the first-ever Chick fil-A opened, in 1967.\u00a0 But it\u2019s closing for good now I did know that a large part of the original expansion for Chick fil-A\u2019s strategy was to get themselves into mall food courts, like they did at Greenbriar Mall.\u00a0 I remember the first time I &hellip;
