Photos: Owning the Final Level

So last night, without any doubt in my mind, I went into Battle & Brew and dominated the shit out of the Final Level burger “challenge” they have.  I’m guessing the stipulations for the challenge are going to have to be changed (again – pretty sure it was 30 minutes when it debuted, now down to 20), because quite a few people are completing it since they started.  Despite the fact that I ate mine in roughly 14 minutes, apparently two people, with one of them being last night, have posted finish times in the nine minute neighborhood.  Not quite sure if I want to compete with those kind of times, although I’m sure I could have finished quicker, but needless to say I’m satisfied at putting to rest, another eating challenge, regardless to how simple it actually was.  More pictures of the mayhem on the click.

I’m kind of in Sports Illustrated

And here I thought that I wouldn’t have anything to write about today.  A few weeks ago, I volunteered to write a review for a Sports Illustrated article about ballpark foods, with my task being a brief blurb of Turner Field’s Hammerin’ Hank sandwich.

Being the wordy, long-winded writer I tend to be, my original submission ended up being four paragraphs, explaining the rationale behind chicken and waffles, the greatness of Hank Aaron, and the slightly egregious price of the sandwich itself.  I was politely asked to reduce my blurb, and I ended up narrowing it down to a single paragraph.  But apparently that was still a little much too in the end, and it was apparently reduced to the above-seen cherry-picked sentence in the end.

No worries though, because I’m just glad to have my name appear in Sports Illustrated.  Not that I expect it to actually make it into any print edition or anything, but it’s still a small pleasing achievement for a sports geek like myself, and I’m also pleasantly glad to see a lot of familiar colleague names from other teams’ blogs doing similarly for their home parks.

Since there is a part of me that’s a little dissatisfied with the shortness of my published work, I feel it is an obligation to myself to share the real words behind the review.

All the right moves

In Inception, there is a car chase scene.  This does not spoil anything at all.  But the most interesting thing about the chase scene as a whole is that the protagonist vehicle is none other than a Hyundai Genesis.  Yeah, a Hyundai.  A Hyundai. It’s not really news, the growth of the once-little Korean car maker, but it’s moments like this that really make me realize of just how big they’ve grown, and that they’re playing in the big leagues now.

Atlantic Station kind of sucks

Last night, I went and watched Inception.  Without saying too much, I really liked the movie.  I enjoyed the cast of the movie; I’ve never really been that impressed with Ellen Page, but this one, I thought she was alright.  The story was okay, kept the viewer thinking and guessing, and there was  a surprising amount of action than what I was expecting.

But anyway, despite the fact that I enjoyed the movie, not quite so much the venue.  Atlantic Station, quite literally in the heart of Midtown Atlanta was built to be this mixed-live/shop kind of development that I’ve grown to call SimCity Commercial Zones these days, since these kinds of establishments have literally popped up in cities all across America, must like as if they were plopped down from the skies at the mouse click of the user, like in SimCity.

Slaves to money

The assignment I’m currently working, I will admit that I am not that fond of.  It’s tedious, frustrating, and most certainly a perfect example of what happens when too many cooks are in the kitchen.  Obviously, I am grateful to be working for the money necessary to pay the bills, but when the day is over, I’m fairly certain I could get another assignment elsewhere if I decided to take my trade elsewhere.

Today’s story is that there was a possibility that myself, as well as the two other freelancers working on this project may have had to have come in on Sunday to help catch this place up.  Details are that it would have been on Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to around 2-3:00 p.m., and the hours would not have been considered overtime.  However, these hours were not mandatory, and we could just as easily declined the weekend work if we simply did not want to work it.
