Photos: Clearwater, Hogan Beach and baseball

I made a spontaneous trip down to Tampa, Florida, because my boy James said he was going to make the trip up to Clearwater to visit the Hulk Hogan Beach Store.  Frankly, I couldn’t see myself visiting on my own and I’m not sure to who I would be able to force come along, so this was an opportunity that I was not willing to pass up.

As for the store itself, it was pretty much the Hulk Hogan Nostalgia Center located on the Beach for all intents and purposes, filled to the brim with Hogan-related memorabilia, souvenirs, crap on the wall, as well as a huge variety of t-shirts and other chintzy things that all have Hogan’s likeness all over it.  And tons of yellow, it was like Asian camouflage in there.

Photos: Birthday Happy Hour

Now that I’m back from Denver, I’ve got a little bit of a backlog as it pertains to pictures and things to write about… so with that in mind, it’s time to get cracking, and start catching up with all of the events before and after my trip.

I’m not really that big on birthday parties, but one thing I like do to do every year is simply get my local buds out for good food and drinks in honor of my birthday.  This year, I invited those who wanted to come and drink and eat good barbecue out to Moe’s Original Barbecue, which is like my current favorite BBQ restaurant in Atlanta, because they have the greatest wings in the city, seriously.

I was honestly nervous about the weather, since there were some dark rain clouds looming up above throughout the afternoon, but fortunately for all of us, it stayed put, and it turned out to be a pretty relaxing evening of good food, drink and company.  And I would be remiss if I did not say that I am very grateful and thankful to those who showed up to give me a little bit of their time all because of my silly birthday.  You guys are all awesome.

So anyway, I’m 31 now.  Old as shit, and feeling it in my back and shoulders these days.

I now possess a jar of legal moonshine

Over the weekend, some friends and I made a day-trip up to Gastonia, North Carolina, which is about thirty minutes south-ish from Charlotte.  It’s sort of an annual trip that we make so we can go to Mary Jo’s Cloth Store, typically to get fabrics and materials needed for Dragon*Con costumes.  Despite the fact that I don’t really need any substantial fabrics for what I plan on doing this year, I still committed to being driver.  Regardless, while on the way up I-85, a particular billboard had caught my eye.

LEGAL MOONSHINE AVAILABLE EXIT 19B

Moonshine?  As in the nuclear race fuel that farmers and rednecks made on their fuel that was usual like 200 proof and could get a human being drunk as easily as it could strip the paint off of an automobile?  And it was being sold legally?  Oh man, this I had to check out, and since I had the almighty power of being driver, everyone else was at my mercy to indulge in this crazy notion that I needed to acquire said legal moonshine for myself.

Photos: Burgers and Boozy Shakes at Grindhouse

In honor of friends coming all the way down from Charlottesville to visit the ol’ ATL, a gathering of sorts, at Grindhouse Killer Burgers.  Where we chowed down on some tasty hamburgers, watched an old-ass flick from 1969 (Marooned, starring Gene Hackman), and where some of us indulged in some booze-induced milkshakes.  Also, a bucket filled with piss-water AKA Pabst Blue Ribbon.  It was ten bucks and the jew in me couldn’t resist the deal.

Tons of selfies and other goofy pictures after the jump.

Photos: New Years Partying at Battle & Brew

When I was younger, there was always a part of me that felt some anxiety at the notion that New Years Eve parties had to be awesome, that they were supposed to be these big, grandiose shindigs, confetti, streamers, and all that made-for-television nonsense.  Eventually I realized that the best times I had on New Years Eves were always the ones that where the company was modest, but close and quality, and we frankly just enjoyed the time counting down the hours and minutes before midnight.

In spite of the slight hangover, being the studious and dedicated brogger that I am, I’m still prompt when it comes to actually posting pictures I take.

This  year, my friends and I spent our New Years Eve at Battle & Brew, our favorite nerd gaming bar.  We played games, enjoyed conversation, and some of us, like me, drank quite generously.  And I brought out the good camera to attempt to document some of the good times.  Sadly for myself, I felt like I was dressed pretty snazzy on this particular night, but as is often the case being the guy with the camera, there’s no documentation of such.  Que, sera, sera.

Photos: HALLOWEEN TIME

For a Halloween party this year, my friends and I decided to bust out some ADVENTURE TIME costumes.  In this case, I am in the perfect costume, being a giant obnoxious-sized BMO, because I’m almost completely physically hidden, and I’m a walking hiding place.

Inside my BMO box, I can make whatever faces I want, collect my thoughts, and more or less hide from the rest of the world if I don’t feel like dealing with it.  But at the same time, I can hardly see shit, I bump into pretty much everything, and my arms eventually get tired from being re-re length, sticking out of two arm holes.  Plus, it totally inhibited how much I actually drank that night, because drinking was a far larger chore than it ever really should be.

No matter, the company was awesome, although I have to say the party was a little lackluster.  Being on a Friday night, where lots of people worked all through the day prior, getting into costumes and going out in public apparently wasn’t on a whole lot of peoples’ agendas on this night.

Pardon the crappy quality of these pictures.  These were all taken on my old shitty Sony CyberShot that’s pretty much dead.  Another disadvantage to being in BMO is the fact that I can’t exactly have my good camera with me for photos, let alone the physical ability to really take pictures.  By no fault of the good graces of those who took these photos is the quality compromised; the camera itself is dated, and dying.  Overexposure, blur and redeye for all!

Photos: The Mexico trip

There’s not a whole lot about the Mexico trip that I haven’t already said, but I did take some pictures while south of the border.  Granted, a lot of the social activities almost all involved water, whether it’s being in pools or being in the ocean, so to be perfectly honest, I didn’t whip out the camera very often when there was any risk of dropping it in water.  Especially with how drunk I got a few times on tequila, booze and bacon.

Anyway, a whole lot of pictures of the indigenous wildlife, and all the wacky shit available in touristy Mexico.  Crucified Predators, crucified Mexican Jesus and even a crucified Batman.  And a whole lot of weird creepy sex symbols, statues and even penis-shaped pipes.  wtf, Mexico?
