Photos: Porkapalooza 2013

This past weekend, I made a brief trip up to Charlottesville to visit some friends.  On the docket was a trip into rural bumfuck Gordonsville, where they happened to have a pretty decent barbecue joint called The Barbecue Exchange, where they happened to be having their annual Porkapalooza event.  Basically, ten bucks, and as much bbq buffet as one can stomach.

In spite of snow flurries and actual freezing temperatures, it was a good occasion of eating pigs like pigs, as well as enjoying good company.  The quality of the bbq, despite being churned out quickly for buffet purposes, was still pretty good, and I liked their variety of sauces.  Their creative desserts were also almost all very good.

In terms of bang for buck, it really doesn’t get any better than this, so I’d have to say Porkapalooza was one fantastic event, and was a highlight of a pretty pleasant trip.

Photos: Cupid’s Undie Run Atlanta

Well howdy there.  If you’re reading this, you’re either one of the seven people that regularly visit my site, or you’re an inquiring Google traveler who happened to put search for the query “undie run atlanta” or something along those lines, because why else: you’re looking for pictures of yourself!  After all, there were many, many people taking pictures throughout the event (including questionable, kind of pervy old people not a part of the event with cameras); why couldn’t there be the possibility that some of them end up on the internet?  Well lucky for you, I’m in the habit of sharing the random photos I take from the events I do that I take pictures at.  And hopefully for your sake, you find one of yourself.

Who was I?  I was that weirdo Asian guy with the championship belt that came to the run like a creepy perv, showing up to an event where people are all in their underwear all by myself.  But it’s because I’m gangster like that, not (entirely) because I wanted gawk at women.  As hard as it may be to believe if you recall seeing me, I’m actually a pretty avid runner, and for the record I finished the mile run probably within the first 15-20 runners.  But yeah, I like to take pictures and post them up on the internet.

Photos: Ring of Honor TV Tapings

These pictures are actually over a week old at this point, but due to the shitty natures of internet going down at my house, as well as the eternal struggles of Induku, these are being a posted a little tardy.  But anyway, I went up to Baltimore with some friends, and we went to go watch a Ring of Honor taping, which was actually four, hour-long programs worth of segments and matches that needed to be filmed.

It was a good time, as much like baseball, I prefer wrestling shows to be minor league sized, smaller and more niche.  It was actually kind of amusing to me that all these wrestlers’ music themes would hit, and not just myself, but there were a good bit of people who had absolutely no idea of who was going to emerge from the curtains.  Sometimes it would be a familiar face, like Matt Hardy or Steve Corino, but in the case of their regular wrestlers like Jimmy Jacobs or even their own World Champion, Kevin Steen, complete blanks for me.

Photos: Allison’s Rockin’ 60’s Murder Mystery

In honor of Allison’s birthday, instead of an ordinary shindig, it was an evening of 1960’s retro and MURDER.  A whole bunch of us partook in a groovy 60’s themed Murder Mystery Dinner Party, revolving around the far out murderous occurrences that happened on the night of the party for Nutmeg Vant’s safe return from being shipwrecked for several months.

In other words, a great big elaborate dorky LARP, but it was a ton of fun, and it was quite enjoyable seeing everyone get involved and put forth such great efforts into getting into their characters, and acting out our parts as best as we could.

Much to the chagrin of some, taking pictures during the evening would have been odd and out-of-character from being the greatest baseball player that ever lived, so all the goofy pictures had to wait until afterwards.

Photos: Celebrating good things

So, on Moloch Day, a bunch of us decided to go out and celebrate good things.  No, of course we weren’t celebrating Moloch Day other than the fact that it got a bunch of a us a day off of work.  It just so happened that Moloch Day was also Miss Allison’s birthday and it turns out that both Jen and I had some reason to celebrate that I’m not really at liberty to talk about, but whatever, we gathered at The Melting Pot and scared off random strangers with abrasive conversation, as well as fondue’d it up for a pleasant evening.

I will be the first to admit the disappointing quality of the pictures in this gallery.  This was more or less the first time that I brought out my new point-and-shoot, and I will also be the first to admit that I hadn’t really used it prior to this night, so it was completely oblivious to me that when in low-light mode, this camera for whatever reason is locked into a lower quality.  The result is a lot of photos with compromised quality, and a lesson learned to really avoid using the low-light setting well, ever again.

Leave it to me to screw up what is supposed to be the simplicity of the point-and-shoot, but it too clearly needs a little bit of understanding to get the best out of.  Regardless, photos:

Photos: New Years Partying at Battle & Brew

When I was younger, there was always a part of me that felt some anxiety at the notion that New Years Eve parties had to be awesome, that they were supposed to be these big, grandiose shindigs, confetti, streamers, and all that made-for-television nonsense.  Eventually I realized that the best times I had on New Years Eves were always the ones that where the company was modest, but close and quality, and we frankly just enjoyed the time counting down the hours and minutes before midnight.

In spite of the slight hangover, being the studious and dedicated brogger that I am, I’m still prompt when it comes to actually posting pictures I take.

This  year, my friends and I spent our New Years Eve at Battle & Brew, our favorite nerd gaming bar.  We played games, enjoyed conversation, and some of us, like me, drank quite generously.  And I brought out the good camera to attempt to document some of the good times.  Sadly for myself, I felt like I was dressed pretty snazzy on this particular night, but as is often the case being the guy with the camera, there’s no documentation of such.  Que, sera, sera.

Encapsulating 2012 in a single post

Seeing as how I have absolutely no work to do at work, and haven’t had any work to do at work for the last four business days, I guess now is as good as time as any to do my own rendition of a year in review kind of post. The good thing about being such a dedicated and studious brogger as myself is that it’s easy for me to take a glance back through the year, and see what I wrote to refresh myself of the happenings of the entire year, and not just limit my entire judgment of a substantial period of time based on the events of just the last six to eight weeks.

When I look over the general pace and tone of my posts throughout the year, and just my basic perception of the year as a whole, I have to say that overall, 2012 wasn’t really that bad to me at all. Dare I say, it slightly erred on the positive side of the spectrum. I did a good bit of activities throughout the year, went to many places, had some decent experiences, and consumed a lot of unhealthy crap on the way. I like to think of myself as a pretty easy-going person, and I don’t particularly ask for a gargantuan amount of stuff each year, so I suppose I can believe that my year was filled out pretty nicely without that much negative crap mixed in.

I guess I’ll do this in a highlight reel kind of style, of the things that stood out the most to me throughout the year:
