Photos: The July 4th Party

USA FUCK YEAH! indeed.

This year, we had more people come than ever before and Jen and I also bought more fireworks than ever before, for our annual July 4th party that happened on the 7th due to the fucked up nature of July 4th being on a got-damn Wednesday.

Despite the sweltering heat initially, the evening cooled substantially once the sun set out of view, and there was tons of food to match the number of people who came down to Zombieland to eat, drink and watch some fireworks.  And to those who all came, I can’t speak for Jen, but I’m ever grateful that you made the lengthy trip down to our sticks for this party.  It means a lot to me.

Photos: Baseball watching in Maryland

A few weeks ago, I went up to Maryland for my annual “Let’s get drunk in Baltimore and watch baseball” trip.  Although the trip has drastically changed how I feel about traveling to that area in the month of June moving forward, the trip itself was its usual entertaining self.

While up there, I decided to venture out to Frederick to see a ballpark I hadn’t seen before, where the high-A Orioles affiliates play.  And then the day after that was usual drunken shenanigans in Baltimore, except that this year, both the O’s and Nationals are contending teams, leading to a metric fuckton more people being there, much to my annoyance.

Heat revelations

In the top left corner of the screen are a guy in a red shirt and a guy in a navy blue shirt. That’s my friend James and I, in the first row of the outfield in the first of the three miserable 100+ degree heat games, where the Braves dropped two of three to the Nationals, but hey at least I got to see one win. I have to reiterate that I’ve never felt this kind of hot weather in my entire life; 101-102 maybe, but nothing that so effortlessly climbed well into the 110+ range ever in my entire life.

Saturday’s game’s first pitch temperature was recorded at 111 degrees, but being a 4:05 p.m. game, the shade actually came sooner rather than later, and protected us somewhat. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case today, being a 1:35 p.m. game; although the temperature was “down” to just 108 degrees at first pitch, there was no shade to be found anywhere. Today was the first time in my life I’ve ever felt affected by the heat, in a legitimate detrimental fashion. I found myself feeling lightheaded whenever we took a piss break, once a brief momentary bought of nausea, and there was a point where I stopped sweating because I apparently didn’t have anything left to sweat. Thankfully the park had courtesy water stations, and I drank the equivalent of about six 20 oz. bottles throughout the game. Kind of scary, to be perfectly honest.

Although I know this won’t hold true, but I don’t think I can complain about another 92 degree day again.

Photos: Pictures from Animazement

Alrighty, since I know definitively that there are people waiting to see these pictures, I may as well sadistically save them for last.  Or maybe I’m just going in chronological order?  Whichever.

So Saturday was really the only day that I took any pictures at Animazement, and over half of them are after I got drunk and it devolved into typical drunk people antics.  It’s fine, because as I alluded to while brogging from The Flying Saucer, I’m too old for this anime con shit, and there’s very little for me to do there, really.  Nevermind the fact that a miscommunication faux pas led to me actually paying for con admittance; something I haven’t done in like over 12 years, and that I essentially had a free room too, but there’s really nothing for me at anime cons, aside from hanging out with my friends, supporting my friends/acquaintances, and then boozing.

First filler post: Maple Bacon Doughnut Beer

I didn’t even know this stuff existed, but it’s apparently a collaboration between the Rogue beer company, and that doughnut company out in Portland that made the maple bacon donut I jizzed myself over after eating, Voodoo Doughnuts.  Despite my love for bacon, I’m very reluctant to dare try such an interesting beer, because frankly, I haven’t really liked many Rogue beers.

Arrogant Bastard Ale, Santa’s Private Reserve, Dead Guy, none of those beers really resonate well with me.  They tend to err on the side of way hopsy and bitter for my pallet.

Smoking on the bay

Despite the fact that he’s a miserable, horrible, evil human being, I’m still quite fond of this photograph.

And in spite of the noobness I’m showing with my DSLR since I got it, I have to say that this is probably one of my favorite photos I’ve ever taken on it since I got it.  The combination of slightly high aperture to get that subtle blur in the background, combined with the focus on Huzzard smoking his cigar, the smoke rising ominously.  And then there’s a big Native American statue with a stogies sign and Starbucks in the background, and it pretty much sums up Huzzard’s perfect idea of what an afterlife should be.

So I’m thirty years old now

And there’s no better way to celebrate my 30th birthday than to go eat horribly unhealthy food and drink a lot of beer.  For months I’ve walked past Cypress Street Pint & Plate, and been curious to try them out.  A birthday gathering seemed like an appropriate enough reason to move forward with it.

I knew when I saw it on the menu that there was no other option – Sublime Burger.  Sublime is an excellent doughnut shop local to Atlanta, and like the namesake implies, this was a half-pound burger with two Sublime doughnuts as the buns.  Some might find the idea of sweet buns off-putting, but I had high hopes.  And were they ever met, because it was an absolutely fantastic burger in the end.  Only slightly sweet, and the burger itself was juicy and flavorful.  It obviously had to be a half-pound pre-cooked, because I made that thing disappear like it was the size of a McDonald’s hamburger.

But anyway, thanks to everyone who took the time to text me, call me, IM me or email me well wishes for my birthday.  It is genuinely appreciated.  And special thanks to those of my friends who came out to Cypress St. with me to partake in beer and unhealthy food with me.  Your company is a better gift than any tangible effects.

Anyway, a few photos were taken.
