The struggles of trying to live like the past

I decided to take my lunch time to go run a few errands.  Specifically go to the gas station, pick up a small purchase I needed, and ship off a package of something I recently sold on eBay.  The caveat to it all was that I had left my wallet at the mythical girlfriend’s place, and all I had in my possession was a small amount of cash, presumably sufficient enough to be able to put gas in my car, make my purchase, and ship my package.

I figured it would take roughly 45 minutes or so to hit up all three destinations and accomplish all three of my planned tasks.  Somewhere around the 75th minute, I was parking back at the office, frothing at the mouth in aggravation at how long everything took.

It had nothing to do with traffic either; it’s simply the fact that everywhere I went, everything just took forever, for a myriad of reasons, sometimes a combination.  But the lasting thought in my head was that the basis of most of it revolved around people doing things a dated way, just how slow an inefficient it all was, and how I’d rather pull out my own teeth than to have to do things in this manner again, if it can be helped.

I’m never playing Team Builder again

Lately, I’ve been playing a lot of Summoner’s Rift games, because I’ve been swayed by the appeal of champion mastery, and the desire to get my favorite champions to a maximum level of “mastery.” Ultimately, my desire to “master” Jinx, because she’s one of my favorite champions, and my preferred role in the game is to be an AD carry.

I’ve avoided blind pick and draft modes, because there’s no surefire way to guarantee that I’ll get to play Jinx when I want to play Jinx, so I’ve been playing a lot of Team Builder, so that I can lock in Jinx, and it’ll pair me/fill me into a team that can accommodate. Playing Team Builder is pretty much the worst mode on the planet.

I’ve lost way more games than I’ve won while in Team Builder.  And the nature of champion mastery is basically along the lines of “win and get like 10,000 experience points towards the champion, lose and you get like 42.” Regardless of how you do as an individual, the amount of points you get rests primarily on whether you win the game or not; like earlier on the day, I had a game, where I went 9/4/11 with Jinx, was easily the most useful player on the team, but on account of my team’s inability to win, I got 35 mastery points.  The opposing AD carry who I killed six times, and a vastly less glowing KDA score, probably got like 4,235 mastery points, because they were carried to victory by an Ekko player who was vastly superior to my team’s inevitable Ekko player.

Why people say they hate League of Legends

The following graphic is my last six games. You might notice that they are mostly defeats. You might also notice that they are also Summoner’s Rift games. I do not play a lot of Summoner’s Rift games these days; I typically play a lot of All-Random-All-Mid (ARAM) games with my girlfriend, because they’re quicker, and the random player select for all participants absolves all players of such nagging details like responsibility and skill, and sometimes they’re tremendously fun when you and/or other players get to play a little mad scientist with how to build out a character for varying results.

Summoner’s Rift games are typically way longer, and play to what’s known as a “meta,” basically meaning a traditionally accepted form in which the game should be played, with specific positions, roles, and styles that is expected of those players designated to each role. Personally, I feel that playing games to a style because that’s what’s expected is kind of stale, boring, and tedious.

Summoner’s Rift games are also what is played on the professional level, so the alleged millions and millions of League of Legends’ player base are playing the exact same game that kids all around the globe are paid serious money to do so.

I hate the world we live in

When we’re kids, we’re often told that it’s best to talk things out, with another person, whenever there’s any sort of grievance.  That violence solves nothing, and that good communication will triumph over any sort of need for fisticuffs.

However, when we become adults, such basic concepts cease to exist, and grownups are more apt to employ every single form of tactic that remove themselves from the visible part of the equation as possible, and to utilize every trick in the book in order to get the job done without making themselves public.

Personally, I’ve always been of the persuasion that it’s still possible to talk things through with other people, and yes although it might be uncomfortable to confront concerns and grievances face-to-face, I still believe that resolution is more easily achieved in such a manner, and at least everything is on the table and out in the open.

The nerd rage over new Harley Quinn is real

Over the last few days over social media, I’ve seen Margot Robbie’s leaked images of her portrayal of Harley Quinn called things from a “strung-out hooker” to all sorts of rage that she’s basically not Paul Dini’s rendition of the character.  This is the sort of thing that happens when you know a whole lot of females that cosplay.

Interestingly enough, there was barely a fifth of the same kind of rage when just weeks ago, Jared Leto’s rendition of The Joker was released.  When it comes to nerds, Harley Quinn is one of the epitome pinups of nerd culture as a whole, and basically any attempt to even try and humanize Harley would predictable end up with resistance and rejection outright.

Naturally, nobody really needs to be reminded that most nerd collective hated the initial still of Heath Ledger’s Joker when The Dark Knight was being teased, but after the movie was released, it was a pretty unanimous conclusion that Heath Ledger was absolutely brilliant in the role and portrayal.

Stories like this make me hate the world we live in

Long story short: Teenager who received a controversial heart transplant in 2013, steals a car, attempts a burglary and leads police on a chase, where he hits a pedestrian, crashes and dies.

“So I can live a second chance. Get a second chance and do things I want to do”

Those are exact words said by the teenager back in 2013 when asked why he wanted the heart transplant that he needed to live.

I guess nobody suspected that carjacking, breaking and entering, shooting at an elderly woman, and leading police on a high-speed chase and striking an innocent bystander were the “things he want to do.”

Atlanta doesn’t give a shit about its south end

This morning, on my way to work I watched numerous police cars with lights blazing and sirens blaring speed past me, while I sat at an intersection.  They peeled into this shopping center that’s not terribly far from my home; but while only one of the cars went into the center itself, two of the cruisers literally drove into the grassy area and my girlfriend observed cops running upon exiting their vehicles.

As I resumed driving, wondering just what the heck was going on at this location not far from my home, several more police cruisers came flying down the road, headed to the scene of the incident.  My last count was seven cop cars in total that were seen heading there, and I couldn’t help but think that such necessity for police presence would had to have been something along the lines of armed robbery, hostages, or any other scenario that could only be construed as “very dangerous.”

Given the fact that such an incident was happening close to my place of residence, it goes without saying that I’m interested in knowing what it could possibly be.  When I got to work, I immediately started visiting all of the websites of the local media, hoping to get some answers.  WSB, FOX Atlanta, 11 Alive (NBC), CBS46 and even the oft-criticized Atlanta Journal-Constitution.  Surely, one of them should have some sort of coverage of an incident that necessitated a large quantity of police presence.
