TL;DR – Black students at Emory University kindly request that the anonymous messaging app, Yik Yak be banned on campus, due to incidents of students anonymously making racist comments

Man, who would’ve guessed that if people were given the shroud of anonymity on the internet, they might just say some critical things!  Who would’ve also guessed that in spite of the idealistic world full of equality for all, that there still exists, racism?  Who knew??

Not that I’m condoning the behavior in question here, but honestly these students must be new, to like, modern society.  I’m also not saying that they should sit around and take it, when racists are capitalizing on the veil of anonymity and saying some racist garbage, but the harsh reality is that shit is most certainly nothing new.

Koreans don’t get respect in baseball

Impetus: Chan Ho Park not included in 2016 Hall of Fame . . . ballot

Let’s be clear here, in no way do I feel that Chan Ho Park is worthy of being enshrined in the National Baseball Hall of Fame (HOF) based on his statistical numbers.  No, I love Chan Ho Park since he’s a Korean guy playing my favorite sport, but it doesn’t change the fact that he wasn’t exactly Greg Maddux or Randy Johnson legendary, and doesn’t have the statistical achievements in order to make it in.

In that regard, the HOF is at least consistent on its demand that only the truly best players get in, and they weigh statistical evidence above pretty much everything else.  However, small as they may be, there are some other variables that are considered when it comes to players’ chances at Cooperstown; otherwise Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa would all already be in the HOF, but their connections with performance-enhancing drugs have basically black-listed them and their gaudy career numbers from enshrinement, as long as ultimately, old-thinking baseball writers association of America (BBWAA) are in charge of keeping the gates.

This is an example of what’s wrong with Atlanta

TL:DR: City of Johns Creek votes “full and complete opposition” to MARTA expansion into its city limits.

Johns Creek is often lost in the shuffle when it comes to the affluent, predominantly-white regions of the outskirts of Metro Atlanta.  However, much like Roswell and Alpharetta, Johns Creek is the oft-overlooked third member of the north Fulton “Milton” county region, that likes to stir the pot and raise controversy every few years about how they want to secede and become their own county, and not be lumped in with the rest of Fulton county AKA “where all the black people live.”

Make no mistake, when it comes to demographics, atmosphere, and sense of entitlement, Johns Creek is sparsely different than its neighbors in Roswell and Alpharetta.

Except when it comes to the acceptance of MARTA, and the stigma that comes along with MARTA.

Is it really victory?

Long story short: University of Missouri president Tim Wolfe resigns after protests over racism are joined by over 30 black members of the school’s football team.

I have a friend.  They are not a sports fan.  I am a sports fan.  This friend and I have had several discussions in the past about how unjust it is that typically, college athletic coaches make millions and millions of dollars in annual salary, whereas even the most tenured, credentialed and celebrated professors won’t even come close to making that kind of money.

Coaches scream at student-athletes, boss them around, institute rigorous physical training onto them, and more or less work for five, six months tops, out of the year.  Professors on the other hand, teach students information, skill, and try to train their brains, so that they can do things once leaving college that don’t involve trying to hit a ball, kick a ball, throw a ball, or move a ball ten yards at a time, as effectively as possible.  And they work vastly more months than six out of any given year.

Oh, Atlanta #456

Sometimes when I feel like I have nothing to motivate me to write things, all I have to do is open up the virtual newspapers, and the city will provide.  Typically, I look for one thing that gets the synapses in the head firing for words, but sometimes, there are days like this where there’s so much bullshit and rhetoric to want to call out that I end up with more than one.

Firstly: laughably inaccurate map of “racially diverse” areas throughout the Metropolitan Atlanta area.  (Bizjournals)

I won’t specify which, but I live in one of these blue-shaded areas.  According to the article, the blue-shaded areas signify that “no one race or ethnicity comprises more than 50% of the population.”  All I have to do is drive down my street, and drive past the nearby* school and go to the nearby* grocery store to know that this is irrevocably false.

Chris Webber is fucking stupid

Impetus: Former NBA player and collegiate scammer Chris Webber compares collegiate sports to slavery

In more recent years, we’ve heard the argument that college players should receive compensation grow and escalate.  Frankly, I agree to a point where perhaps student-athletes should receive some sort of exceptions when it comes to stuff like food and perhaps some leniency in academics, but I am 100% against the idea of college athletes getting paid to do what they do.

Given the fact that it was TMZ and their generally goading methodology that ultimately led to this sound byte, Chris Webber himself still had to think of what to say, and quite possibly couldn’t have said anything stupider:

Bill Russell told me that any system that gets free labor is slavery.  So, I’m sure they have the right to unionize.

Hard hitting journalism all across the interwebs today.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution asks: Is “thug” a racial slur?

According to Mirriam-Webster:

a violent criminal

So the answer is no.  Stop and period.  Stop being so racist AJC, and trying to inject the race card into a deck of UNO cards.  It’s just not going to work, no matter how much rhetoric you spout.

In Milliken, Colorado, a Hispanic restaurant has decided that they will acknowledge June 11th as “White Appreciation Day.”  All, and only white customers, will enjoy a discount on their orders.

“We have a whole month for Black History Month,” Antillon said. “We have a whole month for Hispanic Heritage Month, so we thought the least we could do was offer one day to appreciate white Americans.”

So there’s basically black awareness, Hispanic awareness, and now white awareness.  Where the fuck is Asian awareness?  According to Wikipedia, that’s supposed to be May, but the United States sure as shit doesn’t put any effort in tryna make this knowledge remotely public.

I’m pretty sure I can’t march into any businesses and inquire about Asian Heritage Month discounts, and actually expect to get any.  Unless it’s like at a weeaboo place or something, but still.

Whatever.  Errybody be racist.
