Cost vs. labor exemplified

Funny story.  One of my colleagues is on a long vacation, leaving my team of slaves short one.  Naturally, when a team’s ranks are reduced, it’s to be expected that the remaining members pick up the slack to some capacity, which is fine and all, since that’s how a team operates.  Needless to say, my workload has grown a little bit on my co-worker’s absence, but I’m alright with that, because the same can be said about the other members of my team.

However, it’s the circumstances in which my workload’s increase has come about that has me a little perplexed, which is a nicely-worded way of saying “I do not agree with the way things are, and I shake my head when I think about it.”

Basically, a number of people I work with have been tasked with removing time stamps from well over 800 JPEGs.  Be it through using the clone stamp, healing brush, liquefy tool; whatever it takes to make sure that these images no longer have time stamps on them.  Subsequently, while they are off in Photoshop lala-land, I am the one who is getting the brunt of the actual, meaningful work overflow.  I’m confident enough to say that I’m probably the most qualified to be doing the work that matters, but my current workload is looking pretty gargantuan at the moment, which doesn’t exactly make me feel peace of mind.

Revised Total Divas logo

Piggybacking onto the opinion I had that John Cena was the biggest diva of WWE’s reality television show, Total Divas, I was watching the start of the new season, and during a segment of the show that was focusing on Cena, I had this overwhelming desire to recreate the show’s logo; but modified to do what the show has pretty much done throughout its entire course – focus on John Cena.

I’m going to attach a vector PDF of this file right here, and it’s my dream that many of the vast WWE universe, especially of the troll-like variety that loves to attend live events and control the fan reaction with clever chants and ironic cheering or booing for guys that creative had not intended to be getting such reactions, finds this artwork, and utilizes it to its maximum capacity.

Not gonna lie, I would die laughing if I ever saw this logo on a sign at a live event, especially if it’s someone close to ringside, where Cena himself might even see it.

When you look at it real fast

I was running on the treadmill when I saw this commercial out of the corner of my eye.  Now I know that it says “play hooky at Hooters,” but when I looked at it really fast, the K in “hooky” merges with Hooters, and suddenly it basically says “Play with Hookers.”

It’s hard to say whether or not this was on accident, as given the nature of the tastefully tacky restaurant franchise, they’re definitely not above going low-brow and subliminal in order to stay remembered.  After all, this is the same company that plastered the phrase “THE BIG D” repeatedly when simply referring to the city of Denver, during some promotion where the winner would get a trip to Denver.

Either way, I thought it was funny.  Playing with hookers, or just going to Hooters, both seem like a good time.  Ultimately, this makes me kind of depressed when Hooters had a supposed opening for a graphic designer position that I would have done anything to get, but it was right before the company went into financial straits, declared Chapter 11, and had a hiring freeze.  Seriously, I would have given up a kidney or some other drastic sacrifice to have gotten a job with fucking Hooters corporate.

I don’t think people understand how this works

I was at the store the other day, and I saw a kid wearing a shirt that said “I Converse Logo MEXICO.”  Naturally, I get that it’s one of the thousands of parodies that exist based on the iconic slogan/logo of “I ♥ NY,” but it doesn’t change the fact there are now thousands of poorly done parodies that exist in general.  Just because most people can interpret what the intended meaning of a graphic is, doesn’t mean it’s an excuse for it to be complete rubbish.  I really don’t believe people understand how parodying I ♥ NY is supposed to work.  Frankly, I don’t really believe a lot of people understand how a parody itself works, but one thing at a time.

Inevitable

It was my original intention to have traveled this past weekend, but due to Icepocalypse, that couldn’t happen.

Not to say that I didn’t salvage a busted weekend with a little productivity and helping out some other friends, but I really did have my heart set on gorging on pigs and flesh of lesser creatures on the food chain.

Naturally, the weather was gorgeous, sunny, and not at all intolerably cold the entire weekend, and looking out the window would make anyone believe it was inconceivable that it was a gray, dreary ice blanket outside just a few days ago.  Furthermore, in spite of all the condemnation of Hartsfield Airport due to the mass cancellations during Icepocalypse, and despite that my destination was showing oversold flights, it turns out that I would have made it out fairly easily had I just gone and tried, probably due to people having given up earlier, drove instead, or re-booked and the software didn’t account for it.

My response to such details can only be summed up in the above animated gif I had the time to create, alternatively.

Sing along, now

Despite the fact that I curse fairly liberally when I feel that it’s appropriate, I don’t really want a bigass F-bomb graphic to sit so prominently on the brog facing front. So as lame as it may seem, I’m taking the discretion to mosaic it up and save the real one for the jump, although it’s pretty obvious what it might be, given the allusion and the fact that I may not have mosaic’d it up too harshly.

Anyway, most anyone who’s ever played a Sega Genesis has heard this, the Sega logo splash for Sonic the Hedgehog. If not, click the link and indulge in a six-second clip to understand the rest of this post.

The weekend of productivity

Since the start of the new year, I haven’t really done much. Just about every weekend has been spent at home, where I ultimately have done nothing but play a lot of League of Legends. Now it’s not that I don’t enjoy the game immensely, but the bottom line was that I was not being very productive with my weekend spare time, and I think it began to creep into my head that I was really wasting a lot of time.

Wasting time is one of my biggest pet peeves, and you really haven’t seen me get bent out of shape until you see me when I start feeling like my time is being wasted; especially when it’s by circumstances caused by someone/something other than myself.

Long story short, I challenged myself to get off my ass and actually do something this weekend. At any given time, I’ve always got a project or three that I want to do, but have always sat on my hands and done nothing, until I felt they were warm enough to start spamming QWER keys and right clicking on LoL. So basically I said to myself to simply fucking do something this weekend.
