Photos: Meeting Hacksaw Jim Duggan in Frederick

Without much question, the highlight of my weekend was getting the opportunity to meet WWF legend, Hacksaw Jim Duggan at a minor league game in Frederick.  What made it better was getting to share the experience in the company of good friends who like me, grew up watching Hacksaw punch and clothesline bad guy wrestlers, mostly, before unfortunately jobbing, and pretty often, in the most memorable ways (getting sat on and “injured” by fat guys like the late greats, Earthquake and Yokozuna).  Regardless, the overly patriotic super face has always remained a lifelong favorite amongst us, and a very easy choice to make the trip up to see him, regardless of the baseball game involved.

Prior to going to Frederick, I couldn’t help but wonder of what the meeting was going to be like.  After a great experience meeting Sgt. Slaughter, who was gracious, friendly and great with all the fans, I was sorely disappointed when I met Jerry “the King” Lawler, when he turned out to be a pretty apathetic and obviously money-seeking prick who didn’t so much care about the fans that wanted to see him as much as his head was already wondering when the meet and greet was going to be over.  Honestly, I was just kind of hoping for something in the middle, and hovering more towards Slaughter than Lawler.

Photos: Baseball watching in Maryland

A few weeks ago, I went up to Maryland for my annual “Let’s get drunk in Baltimore and watch baseball” trip.  Although the trip has drastically changed how I feel about traveling to that area in the month of June moving forward, the trip itself was its usual entertaining self.

While up there, I decided to venture out to Frederick to see a ballpark I hadn’t seen before, where the high-A Orioles affiliates play.  And then the day after that was usual drunken shenanigans in Baltimore, except that this year, both the O’s and Nationals are contending teams, leading to a metric fuckton more people being there, much to my annoyance.

Real Men Don’t Wear Small update: Harry Grove Stadium, Frederick, Maryland

Yeah, I’ve been a slow getting to this one.  I went up to Frederick, Maryland, a town I’ve been to many times in my past, but never for baseball before.  I used this venture as a perfect excuse to say happy belated Father’s Day, as my dad went to go watch baseball and drink beer, all while I got to check another unexplored baseball park on my list.  Harry Grove Stadium, home of the Frederick Keys, the Class A+ affiliates of the Baltimore Orioles.

Real Men Don’t Wear Small updates: Many

Hopefully, this will be the largest update I make for the 2012 season!  In this update, I have introduced four ballparks; two of which are two more MLB parks to bring my total count to 23/30, and two more minor league ballparks.  First, there are the respective homes to both the Giants and Athletics, AT&T Park in San Francisco, and the Oakland Coliseum in Oakland.  On the minor league front, I recently visited John Thurman Field, home of the high-A Modesto Nuts, in Modesto, California, and Five County Stadium, home of the high-A Carolina Mudcats, in Zebulon, North Carolina.

I also re-wrote the introductory page somewhat, tweaked some things, and changed out the big-ass intro image.  I felt like a little bit of change was necessary.

For the most part, I ditched the first day of Animazement, because I wanted to go watch some minor league baseball instead.  I took like a total of maybe 3-4 photos from the con itself, but the rest of these photos are from the quaint and surprisingly large Five County Stadium, twenty-six miles east of the city, out in a place called Zebulon, North Carolina.

Overall, I liked Five County Stadium.  I won’t elaborate much, since I don’t really have a ton to say outside of my ballparks site, but I can’t say it was a bad experience at all.  Well worth the travel out, even if it meant forfeiting a potential night of drunken debauchery with my friends.

Photos: Bay Area Trip, day 1: Trip to Modesto, California

My trip out to the Bay Area region of Northern California started out with of all things, leaving it immediately, heading east into the more rural part of California, namely Modesto.  What for?  What else?  Baseball.  Minor League baseball.

Modesto, California, home of the Modesto Nuts.  Yes, I drove two hours outside of San Francisco to see a team called the Nuts, because it is an alternative term for male genitalia.  That, and minor league baseball is fucking awesome, and the trip was pretty well worth it, as it was a cool ballpark, and I saw a good game.

Photos: Moar camera practicing with baseball

I took my DSLR out to Lawrenceville, to practice taking pictures during a minor league baseball game.  Admittedly, I’m still getting used to needing to be a little more intricate with focus, and the processing process dealing with RAWs.  But I do like the versatility that it brings, and I look forward to hopefully getting better as time progresses.

But I am loving some of the results, and if anything at all, that I can get some fairly sweet closer-up pictures.  The deal with all the pitcher pictures is that this guy is Julio Teheran, and if everything goes right in the world, he’ll be a really, really, really good pitcher for the Atlanta Braves for the next four to six years.
