Counting down tragic numbers

D*C picture status: Saturday’s pictures will go up tomorrow, September 15.

At the time I’m writing this, the Atlanta Braves are 56-88, and tied for last place in the NL East division, as well as the worst record in all of Major League Baseball. They’re just as bad as the Phillies whom were popularly predicted to guaranteed lose 100 or more games; the pinnacle of futility when it comes to a baseball season.

For whatever reason, nobody except for me really had the Braves pegged for 100 losses, but as we near the rapidly approaching end of the regular season, the Braves are pretty much on a rocket ship crash course for 100 losses, if not substantially more than that.

Of their last 30 games, the Braves have literally won just four of them.  And two of them were against the Phillies, who barely count as a major league franchise in their own right, currently.  (btw, the Phillies have won 11 games out of their last 30, in comparison)  If this current trend between both teams keeps up, the Braves will undoubtedly finish out the season as the worst team in baseball, along with over 100 losses.

Facts: man on left beat Edward Snowden in Tekken at an anime convention back in 2002.  Blonde girl is my first convention wife, blonde man is my identical twin brother, and the black guy introduced himself with a catchphrase about how his name was “easy to say, hard to spell.”  I have known all of these people for well over a decade.

I decided to do something different this year, as it pertains to sharing photos.  Now I like taking pictures of costumers, and I hope those costumers who ultimately visit my site hoping to find pictures of themselves are remotely satisfied with what they find here, but when the day is over, I still enjoy seeing the more personal pictures, of friends and acquaintances that are sporadically taken throughout the course of the convention.

And since I’m being all anal-retentive about my rules of three, or at least neatly-curated galleries, I decided to separate all the photos of my friends and people doing goofy stuff from the galleries of costumes.  I figure most people will come for costumes, but it’s the friends that might peruse the friends galleries.  That, and because I’m efficient (code for “lazy”), it’s easier on me, because I separate the photos prior to processing them, I spend less time color correcting these more candid pictures, nor do I watermark them.

Since I’m the low man on the totem pole at my job, I had the unfortunate task of having had to work on the Friday of Dragon*Con.  That being said, I didn’t arrive to the convention until like 6 p.m., which certainly ate into the times of the day in which I simply like to wander around and take pictures of costumes that cater to my interests.

Needless to say, the total photo count isn’t really that high, but I still felt like I had a decent amount of time to wander and snap pictures.

My approach this year was that I wanted to snap shots in increments of three; mostly on account of the gallery settings I use in which I like knowing that every costume gets their own row, and there’s no odd-persons out with people having to be broken up in multiple rows.  So, it’s going to be very apparent that I’d been taking multiple photographs of everyone I chose to take pictures of.

When real life gets in the way

Especially after an event or a convention where I circulate cards out to try and steer people into visiting my website, I admittedly try to put on a little bit of a face for a little bit, to be slightly more interesting or engaging, to try and get people to possibly become one of my site’s regular six readers, and not necessarily just be a tourist to view and download pictures.

I try and post fairly relevant, or at least interesting things as fluff posts while I arduously slave away at trying to get my photos up as efficiently as possible, so I don’t lose the attention and potential repeat visits from viewers during the week(s) after said events/conventions.

Believe me, I have a lot of things I’d like to say about Dragon*Con, and I’m the type of nerd that jots down thoughts and notes, so I don’t forget them, and can revisit them when I’m in a more appropriate frame of mind to be writing about them.  And there are several things I’m eventually going to write about the convention, but very recently, I’ve admittedly been downtrodden by several things, and positive face in light of potential new viewers be damned, ultimately my brog exists for me to write out the things swirling around in my head, even if they’re not always the most positively entertaining things out there.

Basically, I left Dragon*Con in a fairly positive state of mind; as is often the case after a convention where I took a lot of pictures, I’m excited to get home and unload my camera and get to actually look at the pictures I took, and relax, gather my thoughts, and prepare for the week(s) of trying to come up with content for my site, as well as the long process of individually processing photos and trying to get them looking the best and up as quickly as possible.

COOL STORY, BRO

Anyway, despite the fact that I wasn’t originally anticipating on going on Thursday night due to needing to work the next day, I found myself sweating up a storm in the Marriott regardless, while wandering around and taking a few pictures.

Needless to say, there are not that many pictures from Thursday night, but there were some notable costumes that I enjoyed seeing.

The rest of the galleries will be broken up between costume, doofy friends pictures, and a photoshoot I did; and will unfortunately take substantially more time, as I have over 500 photos to sort and comb through, not to mention edit and process.

So hang tight, check back often, and hopefully enjoy your visits, there will be plenty of Dragon*Con 2015-related posts for a little while.

The obligatory pre-Dragon*Con post, circa 2015

I feel the need to post something like this, because ultimately, I do like to try and attempt to network and ultimately drive people to visit my site, and I guess it would probably be best if I had something at least mentioning Dragon*Con as the first thing seen, instead of something overly ranty, sports-related, or Atlanta-criticizing, making anyone I implore to visit my site see something that makes them stop and think “did I get the site right?”  I’m sure seeing like, Dikembe Mutombo might wonder if they’ve been duped into giving some sports blog an unwarranted hit or something.

No, if there’s ever anything that gets people to visit my site during/after Dragon*Con is simply the fact that I take pictures, and am somewhat of a reliable repository of photos that people might be able to see mediocre photography.

Who would have guessed a pro-wrestler of the 80’s had violent tendencies

Impetus: WWE legend Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka found guilty for third-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter for the death of an ex-girlfriend back in 1983.

My knee-jerk reaction to this story was the fact that a case that was 32 years old was restarted, ultimately leading to the arrest of Snuka.  32 years.  That’s insane.  I’m 33 years old, meaning that this incident occurred when I was just a year old.  While I’m still sucking my thumb and crawling around on the floor, Jimmy Snuka might have allegedly been assaulting women when he wasn’t fake-assaulting men in leopard-print underwear tights.

I’m obviously no expert in the legal system, but isn’t there supposed to be a statute of limitation or something?  Like, some things can fall so far back in the past, that they get to a point where they actually can’t be fired back up?  Not that I’m saying I didn’t want to see Superfly get arrested, quite the contrary, regardless of where they are in my memories, criminal activity should be rectified; but I just was puzzled that something over three decades old, was still fair game to reopen investigation.
