Now this is netbook territory – brogging from inside of a Cuban restaurant while munching on a tasty Cubano.
One of the benefits of the latest Resident Evil 5 updates was the mini game known as Mercenaries: Reunion. It’s all the same levels as in the regular Mercenaries, but this time, they’ve added several new character. Funny that they should call it “Reunion” though, since out of the eight playable characters, only two are truly “being reunited,” coming from an earlier RE game.
Barry Burton, is the first character, available when you purchase Lost in Nightmares. It was a blast playing as Barry, since he has some excellent melee attacks, and most importantly, Capcom saw it fit to make sure that his one-liners stayed intact: “What IS this?!?!” and “I have THIS.” when performing an attack called Miranda Rights. But as strong as Barry is, he has his limitations, which pretty much means that the lack of a shotgun, or a quick-Majini-killing firearm hinders him a little bit.
This is all rectified with the second unlockable character, Rebecca Chambers, also from the first Resident Evil, as well as the prequel, RE Zero. Universally perceived as the weakest combatant character in the series, the RE5 developers saw her fit to make her essentially the best available character in Mercenaries. Seriously, I have gotten nothing but A rankings using Rebecca, and the highest score than with any of the other characters.
She’s given both an automatic assault rifle, as well as the second-best shotgun in the game, and unlike many of the other characters, she is also given a very generous amount of extra ammunition. And what would a field medic be without healing? Whereas some characters are given like a green herb or something small, Rebecca is given two first-aid sprays, which means she can heal herself twice completely, if things get hot. Sure, this leaves her with one available inventory slot, but it’s not like you’ll need anything other than more ammunition, in the fast-paced Mercenaries world.
Bottom line – Rebecca Chambers is the best available character in RE5 Mercenaries Reunion, and has breathed yet more life into the game, and is a great for using to relieve tension created by the repeated failures of Desperate Escape on Professional difficulty.
