BEST WORST HOLIDAY

Ahh, it’s that time of the year when I can wake up on a Monday morning, and not feel the anxious feeling of knowing that I have a finite amount of time to brush my teeth, get dressed, let the dog out, and get out on the road, before a very tiny window of time that separates a 45-minute commute from a 60+ minute commute.

For it is Confederate Memorial Day observed in the great state of Georgia, and I do not have to work today.

This is kind of like the feeling of watching your favorite sports team’s arch-rivals losing to a third party.  After your favorite sports team has already lost for the day.

Snow day lol

I was a little jealous of those lucky enough to have Presidents Day off, despite the fact that I typically get every other holiday as well as Confederate Memorial Day off, because I’m greedy, and I want to slack when everyone else is slacking too.  Needless to say, work was on the agenda for today.

Thankfully, the City of Atlanta and the State of Georgia have become a little sensitive to criticism following the embarrassment that was the way Snowpocalypse 2014 was handled, and have decided to err on conservative, by being preventative as opposed to reactionary.  That being said, today is a snow day, and my office is closed.

As you can very well see in this photographic evidence taken this morning, my backyard is clearly a frozen tundra, and a baby wooly mammoth that looks precariously like my dog is traversing the land Pangaea to seek warmth and sustenance.

This pleases me.

Thoughts on Disney World

During the brog’s layoff, one of the things that I did was what’s apparently been somewhat of an annual tradition in recent years, which was a trip down to Florida to visit Disney World as well as Universal Studio’s Halloween Horror Nights.

It’s something I enjoy greatly, because I enjoy Halloween-themed events, roller coasters, and ultimately most of the evenings result being spent in Epcot’s annual Food and Wine Festival, which is pretty much one of the greatest events in the world to me, since by the time I’m done with it, I can typically claim that I’ve eaten the entire world, and lots of the countries’ kiosks brings out some excellent quality grub and booze to begin with.

Except for South Korea, which is pretty much the biggest disappointment since like the 2007 New England Patriots. Seriously, just about every booth in the park has people indigenous, or at least of the ethnicity of the country’s booth they’re working for, except for South Korea’s. Furthermore, the food is about as good as one might expect from a place that says “Korea” but has a bunch of white people working it. When your options are the disappointing “Asian” pork taco from last year, and a “Kimchi Dog,” it’s like offering a Mexican person visiting from Mexico, Taco Bell or Del Taco.

Having neat summers

I’ve been in kind of a funk lately.  Not quite emo-y depression, but not necessarily cheerful and content with everything. I’m not excited about anything at all, and I’m finding it difficult to get motivated to do anything outside of my core daily activities.  This does not bode well, considering the numerous things that I wish to accomplish before the end of August, for when Dragon*Con rolls around again.

Lately, I’ve been feeling like my summers have become somewhat formulaic, which might be a logical root of some of this discontent.  Over the last few years, my summers have been dictated by baseball trips and Dragon*Con.  Now I’m not saying I don’t dislike either of those things any less this year, but I think there’s a part of me that thinks that perhaps I should seek out a break from the ordinary soon.

Photos: Disney Vacation

Y’know, I thought that there would be more to elaborate on when I got to posting the pictures, but it’s really nothing I haven’t already said in the previous post, summing things up.

The trip to Florida was as pleasant as I had hoped it would have been, and I don’t really have any complaints.  I spent a good bit of coin on a whole lot of food and more food, and lots of alcohol, and I rode a lot of roller coasters, got sunburned, and had a fun trip.  And despite taking a vacation from my vacation with a day spent mostly by the pool, I still found myself somewhat exhausted and slept for almost 12 hours in a single night this weekend.

Looking through these pictures makes me realize that there’s a long, long, long, long path ahead of me if I ever want to feel like I’ve got somewhat adequate control over my own camera, since a good 20% of the pictures taken were blurry beyond belief and therefore unusable.  But I kept in a few here and there, because hey, there was some drunken shenanigans, and the blur only adds to the accuracy of how such things might’ve felt.

Vacation, in brief

My Disney vacation was a great time.  I’m sure I’ll elaborate on several aspects of it in future posts as I comb through the litany of pictures taken during the trip, but I just wanted to artificially inflate my own brog post count by posting something fluffy and inconsequential, not to mention that I’ve got a little bit of downtime at work, and it seems like a good idea at the time.

I can’t really say that there was anything bad about the trip, so by default it means that it was a very good vacation as a whole.  Staying on Disney property was interesting and a somewhat educational experience, at the Wilderness Lodge, and I loved the idea of being privy to Magic Hours as resort guests, even if the one time we were at Epcot during a Magic Hour, we hardly got much privilege out of it, but it means something to look forward to in future years.

Impending brog hiatus

For about the next week, I’m going to be at Disney World.

Suffice to say, there will not be any substantial posts going up for about that time.

It’s safe to assume that any posts that miraculously emerge while I’m on vacation will likely be to a state of extreme relaxation, or inebriation.  Either way, I will have no regrets about them.

Have a good week everyone.
