Okay, it wasn’t really ruined

Despite my proclamation that Black Friday was ruined, in the end, it didn’t turn out so bad for me in spite of my judgmental claims. I started shopping on the afternoon of Thanksgiving, and while the food was cooking, I made a few purchases, and felt pleased with myself for tackling things that I wanted, at good prices, and eliminating the need to wake up at 3:30 in the morning the following day.

All in all, I have to boast the things I managed to procure without even having to leave my house:

  • 23″ monitor
  • Canon point-and-shoot camera
  • 32GB SD card
  • Three sweaters
  • One pair of jeans

I stayed up until almost 3 am, after all my company had left, and perused through the varying sales that were already in full swing or were just beginning since it had turned midnight on PST. I didn’t buy anything else for myself, but I was so drunk with online shopping, that I helped acquire other things that they were looking for.

The following morning, I awoke at a more reasonable time, and Jen and I spent the day store hopping, and even going to a shopping mall, which in any prior Black Friday would have sounded like suicide. But since we were well past the crazy hours from the early am hours, it was fairly tame. Behaviorally, that is; the aftermath of all the crazy shoppers from the morning led to lots of stores looking like bombs went off in them, and in all the women’s stores that Jen passed through, there were precarious amounts of women’s panties strewn on the ground. It felt kind of like a strip club at times.

Sure, there was a massive volume of people at most places, but we ended up having a pretty productive day of shopping, to where I ended up purchasing the following additional goods:

  • Macho Man Randy Savage t-shirt
  • Dress slacks
  • One more sweater
  • One pair of jeans
  • Replacement trash can for the shitty one

All in all, I did a great job of spoiling myself a little bit, which is something that I typically fall short at. I feel as if I improved my wardrobe a good bit for the winter, while getting a few spoils that I kind of wanted. As much as I felt that Black Friday was ruined by the pursuit of profits and greed, it turned out that the lack of crazy ended up being a whole lot more sane and manageable, with a lot less stress. Who knows if it’ll be like this still, the next time I’m in the market for something crazy, but for what it was worth, this year wasn’t so bad. Great success.
