Brief social commentary

One of the most clichéd sayings out there is “two wrongs don’t make a right.”  Pretty much everyone has heard this saying, yet it’s very apparent that there are many more that clearly know them simply as words and not necessarily sage wisdom, and are incapable of heeding to it.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s in Baltimore or Ferguson, Philadelphia or Atlanta, New Orleans or Charleston; there is rarely a time in which rioting is ever the answer.  If allegations of police brutality towards black people are true, then that is wrong.  Burning vehicles and buildings and erupting in physical violence with complete strangers does not make that wrong right; such is also wrong.

Those two particular wrongs most certainly aren’t going to make a right.  Ever.  Believe it or not, I’d wager a good bit that I’m right on this one.

Anyone else think Mayweather wins, easily?

I can’t say that I’m the biggest follower of boxing, but anyone who watches any sort of sport is cognitively aware of the existence of guys like Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, Jr., and that they’re going to be having their long (long) overdue boxing match very soon.

The general consensus is pretty consistent all across the board: it’s five years too late, and most people don’t care nearly as much as they would have, like five years ago, but whatever it’s finally going to go down.

If I were the type to put money on sport (anymore), I wouldn’t hesitate to bet on Mayweather.  Not for a second.  Ask me on the street who I think is going to win, and I’m saying Mayweather before the question is even finished.

I love it when people not from Atlanta try to write about Atlanta

Impetus: Movoto.com lists the ten most affordable “Atlanta” suburbs, “just outside of” Atlanta city limits.  Uses absolutely nothing but area population and median cost of living as criteria for list.

For the record, the author of this particular post resides in San Francisco, California.  I would bet money that the author of this has never been to Atlanta, save for the high likelihood of having had a layover at Hartsfield Airport.

The following is the list of affordable suburbs, allegedly just outside of Atlanta:

  1. Morrow
  2. Locust Grove
  3. Conley
  4. Barnesville
  5. Centerville (tie)
  6. Irondale (tie)
  7. Forest Park
  8. Thomaston
  9. Redan
  10. Panthersville

Let’s talk about the word “foreigner”

And no, not the band.  I actually really, really love the band Foreigner.  They’re one of those groups that I’ve heard their music all the time growing up, and mostly in movies, like the Rocky series, but it wasn’t until I was older did I put two and two together, and realize that the band that sang the montage of my life growing up was in fact, Foreigner.  But not thatForeigner, despite the fact that they undoubtedly rule.  I’m talking about the word foreigner, when describing people.

I was standing in line at Starbucks (big surprise), and this girl up and conveniently “meets up” with a friend AKA completely cuts in line.  It’s not really that long of a line, and I’m a pacifist and reluctant to make a confrontation over such a trite matter, so I begrudgingly let it slide.

The girl then begins talking about how she was leaving a particular location, at the same time as a whole lot of what I’m guessing were classmates.  But she didn’t refer to them as classmates, she mentioned how “all the foreigners” left at the same time she did.  I wrinkled my eyebrow at hearing this, as it’s been quite a while since I actually heard someone refer to people from other countries as specifically “foreigners” like this manner.

I can’t unsee it anymore

I was running on the treadmill, and because the television options at the gym’s cardio equipment are pretty much Keeping Up With the KardashiansThe View, The Black View (AKA “The Real”) and ESPN, I admit that I have ESPN tuned in way more than any human being with a brain really should.

That being said, there was once a day in which I saw Chris Broussard flapping his gums about something; close-captioning was off, and thankfully I had my earbuds attached to my phone instead of the TV, but there’s about a 100% chance it was probably something in regards to race, because Chris Broussard serves zero purpose on ESPN other than to stir up shit by repeatedly utilizing the race card.

But anyway, I’m looking at Chris Broussard this time, and I can’t help but feel like he reminded me of someone.  Someone I’d seen before, that wasn’t Chris Broussard, but looked a tremendous amount like him.

Breaking Bad talk

Being the bastion of keeping up with current trends and things people are crazy about, I’ve finally watched my way through all of Breaking Bad.

It goes without saying that I will be discussing some things that might be perceived to be spoilers, but I will keep those behind a jump, because I understand that there are plenty of people like me that seldom watch television live, and prefer to watch things in chunks and marathons, even if it means seeing them long after they’re current.

As a whole, the series was in fact, great. A grand wealth of character development, clever and intelligent writing, plot twists that aren’t blatantly obvious, and a general respect for the viewers’ intelligence with how things are presented, and are not always spelled out to be easily predicted.

Do pants made solely for sagging exist now?

Of all the fashion trends that I’ve been privy to witness and even occasionally partake in, come and go throughout my entire life, there’s one that’s apparently defied the test of time, and somehow manages to exist even to this very day: sagging pants.

If you were to ask me where sagging pants seemed to originate from, I’d have said Kriss Kross.  My girlfriend (I know, right?) says that sagging pants originated in prisons as indication of being a bitch to someone else.  Really though, regardless of which of those are right, if either are true, the fact remains, why is it even considered cool enough to where so many people still do it to this very day?

This is one of those things that I’ll never understand, nor do I really want to understand.  I will always consider a person who willingly lets their underwear-clad ass hang out while their pants are literally draped underneath their butt cheeks as a low-life and someone I probably won’t have any interest with associating with.
