Photos: Dragon*Con 2014 – Saturday

Saturday’s gallery is vastly smaller than what a normal Saturday gallery should be, but that’s entirely due to the fact that I myself was in costume for a good part of the late-afternoon into the evening hours.  Now as much fun as I had being Fifth Age Taric, I’d be the first to admit that I spotted a lot of things that I’d really liked to have taken pictures of, had I not been in costume.  And Taric’s not exactly the kind of costume where I could sneak a point-and-shoot with me to take some B-roll shots, since both my hands are occupied in costume.

Regardless, most of Saturday’s highlights are lots of League of Legends costumes; I wandered around the gigantic group shot area outside of the Hilton, and waited out the group pictures, since to be perfectly honest, I hate taking pictures of monstrously sized groups, preferring more to take pictures of individuals or in small pairs or troikas.

Not saying there’s no pictures of things not LoL-related, but it’s pretty obvious to what has and is my preferred subject to take pictures of.

Photos: Dragon*Con 2014 – Friday

Admittedly, and embarrassingly, I admit that I spent the vast majority of Friday morning/afternoon dealing with a rager of a hangover from the previous night’s shenanigans.  That being said, I kind of felt like I didn’t take nearly as many pictures as I normally do at a D*C, but at the same time, I was wondering if there were many things that me personally, wanted to take pictures of.

I’m not saying that what was out there was utter garbage, but it’s no secret that the unofficial rule of costuming is that the big guns come out on Saturday; Fridays are like for the secondary tier of costumes, or something along those lines.  After all, I can attest to having more than one conversation with friends and acquaintances that echo such a sentiment.

Regardless, there was still plenty of things to take pictures of, and again I’ll have to remark about how I’m disappointed in myself for being so negligent and unpracticed to have gone the entire weekend with my new camera and new lens operating without the image stabilization that an amateur like me probably really needs.

D*C 2014: Seems legit not

Picture progress notice: Picture processing is complete.  Rest of the weekend will be spent uploading them, and throughout next week, I will begin posting galleries.

A long time ago at a previous employer, I had a co-worker that told me the number one culprit on how to identify a fake Louis Vuitton item.  I’m not entirely sure how or why it stuck with me, but for whatever reason, it did.

Long story short, the apparent rule of the Louis Vuitton brand is that nowhere on any piece of Louis Vuitton merchandise, is the “LV” logo mark is NEVER cut off.  It cannot be cut off by an edge, a seam, or any sort of fold.  The LV logomark is 100% intact on 100% of the entire item, or else it’s probably counterfeit.

The first of likely several post-Dragon*Con posts

I realize that after giving out plug cards to my site throughout a weekend, it would be fortuitous if I actually had something about Dragon*Con on the front page, so that any new viewers aren’t hit in the face with social commentary or my more minutae ramblings, when ultimately they’re looking for pictures of themselves from the convention.  This is coming a little later than I had hoped, because upon coming home from D*C, it turns out that my furnace shit the bed, and I’ve been without air conditioning in a stifling home for the last 24 hours, until an HVAC guy could come fix it.

Anyway, it’s going to be a little while for me to process through the 300+ photographs taken at the convention, so if you’re just here for pictures, I’d recommend tracking me down on Facebook, where I occasionally inform folks when I upload my galleries.  Or, I certainly won’t mind having another reader, if you’re into verbose wordy opinions on a daily basis.

“If I can’t have it, it probably sucks anyway.”

That’s the sentiment I feel like I’m deriving based on scuttlebutt chatter as Dragon*Con approaches.  As I alluded to in a prior post, there’s kind of a dour feeling in my small little world as the days tick down towards Nerdi Gras.  And it’s coming from two specific parties: people who are part of the costuming community and/or people who for whatever reason, cannot make it to Dragon*Con this year.

But the point remains is that if people aren’t fighting over opinions on what D*C is or is supposed to be, they’re deciding that it’s best if they let their own small little worlds know that they can’t make it, and that they’re glad.  It’s not being said, but there’s an implied underlying hint of resentment that they’re not going, and almost as if it’s by result, they hope it’s vastly below-par and less than satisfactory than if it were with their presences.

As for the people in the costuming community that can’t seem to get their heads out of their own asses, I’m seeing a different, albeit no less interesting phenomenon going on amongst those whom are textually sparring.  Person A makes snarky remark about a policy.  Person B gives their opinion that differs.  Parties C-G gives opinions that mirror A, while H-N show up to provide snarky, all-caps esoteric sarcasm rebuttals.  I don’t know what usually happens next, because by this point I’m usually hiding the conversation from my wall.

Jobbers of Cosplay

job•ber.  n. – performer whose sole purpose is to lose with the express purpose of making their competitors look superior.  See professional wrestling terminology.

Despite the fact that jobbers are undoubtedly important in the world of wrestling, as well as all other applications in which jobbers can be utilized, the bottom line is that nobody really wants to be a jobber.  Sure, jobbers are still granted exposure, experience, and in many cases actually still paid, but when the day is done, they’re portrayed as losers.  Especially at younger ages, nobody wants to be losers.

I watch Heroes of Cosplay.  This shouldn’t be much of a surprise given the fact that I still go to occasional conventions, and take hundreds of pictures of people in costumes.  I also know most of the Atlanta cast, but that doesn’t influence my opinions of the show or how I feel about the things they say on television, or the things that are depicted as realities that I might question.  Also, it’s not like any of them probably actually visit my brog unless there’s a chance that I might have a picture(s) of them.

Photos: MomoCon, day 2

So on the second day of MomoCon, I went back to the kit lens which would give me the vastly needed versatility in a con environment to take pictures with.  The results were somewhat better, and I didn’t have to scrap as many pictures as I did the day prior.

Regardless, more mostly League costumers, and other miscellaneous things that caught my eye, as well as some silliness with friends.

Still no Mafia Jinxes though. ☹
