Was this really necessary?

Anyone who notices the sites that I link to might notice Me In My Place, which sure, at a cursory glance looks like a pervy site full of girls running around in their underwear.  And I’m not going to deny that I don’t not enjoy seeing girls running around in their underwear, but in all honesty, I like the concept of the site, and as someone who hopefully will show some improvement in photography, I find the site as sort of inspirational as well.

When I look at the site, it’s not because I’m trying to get my jollies, I’m viewing as a fan and admirer of their art.  What kind of twisted person would actually link their personal arousal preferences on their own blog??

Stop and say whoa

Sometimes as I peruse through eloHell looking through memes and general LoL-related fandom, there are occasional cosplay photographs that pop up from time to time. I like Caitlyn a lot, since my preferred role in the game is that of being an ADC, but she’s still not my go-to champion. That being said, I came across this picture, and I LITRALLY stopped everything, and it was one of those whoa moments.

I don’t know who this girl is, I don’t know what the rest of her costume looks like; whether the gun is good or crap if she has one at all, if her hair is a wig or not, or anything else outside of what I can see in this one photo, but I frankly think she’s absolutely beautiful. I am a sucker for women with large doe eyes, and this Caitlyn here definitely fits the bill.

I think it’s an absolutely lovely photograph of a pretty girl, and you know I’m scraping for things to write about when I’m making posts about randomly found cosplay pictures, but it still says something if a simple photograph is inspiring me to put words down in the first place.

I love goodbyes

Now despite the fact that I like a good weekend every now and then where I literally do nothing but stay at home and play League, watch college football, sleep in until the dog starts barking his need to go pee and living off of whatever’s left over in the refrigerator and pantry, there’s no doubt that it can sometimes be pretty lonely doing such. Not necessarily in the “oh noes, Danny is making another ‘I wish I had a girlfriend’ post” kind of way, but really just being around other people in a fun social engagement in general kind of way, because when the day is over, I’d rather be in good company, chilling out in a relaxed setting.

Such does not occur as often as I’d admittedly like it to occur, but most of that falls on me. I live out in the sticks that are often as surprised as I am to be considered part of the Metro Atlanta area, and it’s a pain to get to anywhere without having to think about niggling details like traffic, time, and fuel consumption in the back of your head sometimes. Also, it’s not that I’m a raging alcoholic by any means necessary, but I do like to drink in social settings, and I’m always paranoid that there’ll be another sobriety checkpoint near my house again, but it’ll fall on a date where I’ve had one or two beers and no designated driver; my dad got a DUI a few years ago, and he’s living proof that no number of decades of safe, immaculate driving record is impervious to the damages a DUI can do, which scares the shit out of me sometimes.

Photos: Anime Weekend Atlanta 2013

Since I’ve been on my picture-taking kick, I decided to hit up AWA for just the Saturday. This is first anime convention I’ve paid to get into in quite some time, and I’ve typically had my reluctance with them, since they usually just make me feel really old. But I really wanted the opportunity to work things out and take pictures with my camera, so I figured why the hell not?

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the costumers I saw in general. Fewer memes and more actual characters, with decent effort put into them. Lots of League of Legends costumers too. And not nearly as many spastic retards running around either. Much to my surprise, I ended up taking over 100 pictures in the one day I was there; I’ve gotten in the habit of doubling up on most people, more if I really like them, so that tends to skew the numbers. I’ve also realized that I actually really dislike taking group shots, and prefer to take pictures of solos or pairs.

Riot Graves costume construction: fin

Alrighty then, Dragon*Con is a month beyond us now, and I feel like I’ve caught up on a lot of things in terms of writing, processing pictures, more writing, and simply getting back into the swing of things. That being said, I realized that I never followed through with my promises to myself and to my seven readers that I’d do my best to chronicle the construction of the Riot Graves gun for the costume I wore at Dragon*Con, and subsequently the other costume components.

So, unlike the LeBlanc staff process that I compartmentalized into many small posts, screw that, I’m just going to go straight into covering everything I possibly can, as detailed as I can, as it came to the construction of the Riot Graves gun, as well as the armor pieces and other doodads necessary to put together the Riot Graves costume.

Admittedly, there aren’t going to be nearly as many photos as I hoped there would be, because frankly there were points during the construction where there simply wasn’t time. Either I would be against the clock against chemical pot life and cure times, or after my haphazard minor league baseball trip, I was against the clock with Dragon*Con quickly approaching. I suppose inquiring minds will have to settle with my intrepid writing abilities instead at certain points.

The problem with “The Problem With…” Posts

The short answer is that they’re almost always hypocritical in nature.  Often times the impetus of a Problem with ___ is the fact that the person writing it is in disagreement with something that is fairly commonplace in the time in which it was written.  They just don’t like something.  They’re compromised and biased against it.  Hell, I’m 100% confident that I’ll write something in this post that directly contradicts something else I’ve ever said if there was any of my seven readers who would be so dedicated to try and find said contradiction later on.

Anyway, a number of my Facebook friends have been sharing this particular link, where a blogger is pointing out that there is a problem with cosplay celebrity.  Here’s the very first sentence of the entire post:

My husband and I are both 501st.

Dragon*Con 2013 Parting Thoughts

Overall, I can say that Dragon*Con was a pretty good time, and about what I expect out of the D*C experience on a yearly basis.  I got to see and hang out with a bunch of people, I took a lot of pictures, and I shared good food and drink with decent folks.  Sometimes I think it’s a little absurd that I dump a ton of money into doing such things, but eh, it’s once a year, why the heck not?

A couple of notable things happened during my weekend – like spending most of Friday night at the hospital because one of my friends called me and explained his dire need to go to urgent care out of the blue (nothing severe, but still necessary).  Then there was the ironically good sense of mind I had on one night to decide to sleep on the floor that prevented me from getting puked on that makes me realize how lucky I was on one evening.  And then there’s the always fun instances of watching a fellow nerd decide to handcuff himself in proposed matrimony that always is a joyous occasion at D*C.  Hospitals, puking and engagements, oh my.
