No, this is not a case of “lazy Danny duplicating a post and forgetting to change the title of the post,” it’s just that really, it’s just funny to me that I had the opportunity to introduce a post like this, because of two days worth of completely obvious and ‘yeah, no shit,” news that tickled my fancy.
Granted, this link is a portal link to a story that’s behind a paywall, but really, the headline is all anyone needs to see, and I can take it from there as it comes to providing context.
But today’s shocker of the century: The Atlanta Braves post 2nd largest drop in both attendance and television ratings.
Imagine that, who would’ve thunk that liquidating the entire team right before the season started, would have any repercussions to fan approval and fan desire to support the team?
Sure, baseball nerd and statistician poser Danny understands entirely the context behind the liquidation, and the truth is that the Braves really could have a great team, come like 2018, but the purist and baseball fan Danny that demands instant gratification, completely understands why people have left the Braves bandwagon emptier than a church on a Monday.
The bottom line is that the Braves stink this year. That alone accounts for like 95% of why attendance has dropped. The remaining 5% are people who are taking out their disdain for the creation of SunTrust Park, as a political slap in the face, and refuse to support the Braves for that matter, and pretty much everything else. But basically, it’s because the Braves stink that nobody wants to go see them lose 55% of the time.
As for TV ratings, the primary reason is that again, the Braves stink, and people don’t really feel like tuning into 55% probability losses. That has a large reason of why people aren’t tuning in.
But another massive reason to why ratings are down is the fact that there are people lots of the time, that can’t tune into the Braves, even if they wanted to. Namely, DISH Network customers, like me. Because the Braves are run by old and stupid people who locked them into this archaic and completely one-sided television deal with FOX, and FOX has a yearly beef with DISH that results in a percentage of Braves games being blacked out, it basically creates a scenario where it’s never clear which games Braves fans can watch, and which ones end up being blacked out. Eventually, people, like me, just give up on the notion of being able to see the Braves whenever they want to, and end up playing League of Legends instead. Or watching wrestling, or HBO.
Speaking of which, I’m behind on Ballers starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. And getting my IP of the day. But not watching the Braves, even though I still do like them, it’s just too difficult to want to watch a team that’s given up on its fans, as much as fans have given up on them.
