This is how I think about Facebook users too

Summary for when this video inexplicably is no longer viewable in a month, leaving my brog with a post with a dead video link: Our protagonist, Scott, who lives a fairly mundane existence, after perusing through his Facebook wall where everyone’s fluff posts depict lives more magical, exhilarating and interesting than his, begins embellishing his mundane happenings with false optimism and occasional fudging of the truth. The superficial piling up of likes encourages him to keep doing it, but eventually the world comes collapsing around him, and even he can’t spin the follies into overly enthusiastic status updates, resulting in the downward spiral of social degradation until people just begin blocking him.

Not to sound overly pessimistic, but this is exactly how I envision a lot of people utilizing Facebook and other social media outlets. In front of an audience where very few can actually dispute or challenge, you can say almost anything you want, and hope that viewers view your perception as their reality. I’m convinced that people occasionally factor in the potential to be able to boast about it on social media to excite others, as justification to be excited about something, instead of the days when people would be excited about it, solely for themselves.

When feminism ruins good

There’s a movie coming out this week called The Fault in Our Stars.  A brief synopsis is that it’s the story of a teenage girl (Hazel) with a terminal illness who meets a teenage boy (Augustus) at a support group who immediately takes a liking to her, despite the fact that Hazel feels insecure with herself due to her cancer and the fact that she has to always carry an oxygen tank around with her everywhere as a result.  As their relationship blossoms, Hazel is reluctant to fully let Augustus into her world, because she feels that as she is terminally ill, she doesn’t want to burden anyone with the pain of her eventual death.  Undeterred, Augustus pursues her heart, because pain is supposedly inevitable, and there’s no sense in trying to avoid it at the cost of living your life.

In other words, it’s a heartfelt romantic plot that is just about guaranteed to make the vast majority of viewers cry.  It’s also based on a true story, which makes it all the more soulful and beautiful in a sense.  But for all intents and purposes, it has the makings of a good movie that will undoubtedly make people feel sadness, but the overlaying message will be one that of happiness.

The anatomy of a blue day

Typically whenever I’m feeling blue, I can usually take solace in the notion that I can sleep it off, and I’ll be alright the following morning.  Logically, it doesn’t make any sense other than a convenient literal idea that we’re closing the book on one day, and that the next day is truly a brand new page for us to begin writing on.  But usually it works, and things simply feel better just because it’s not the same day when you were feeling down.

Such is kind of the case at the time I’m writing this now, as I do feel a little bit better than I did the day prior despite the fact that other than downtrodden emotions in my mind, there was absolutely nothing physically wrong with me.  However, this doesn’t mean that I can’t continue to think about and try and hypothesize the things in my head that put me in a dour mood.

Why are people so fascinated by lists?

Throughout any given work day, there are a handful of sites that I peruse for entertainment, education or just to plain pass the time.  Generally, I like to be somewhat in tune with the news of what’s going on locally in Atlanta, what’s going on in the country to some capacity, and to read about stuff that interests me like baseball, video games, and LoL.  I enjoy keeping my mind stimulated by interesting content, and it also helps pass the time, when I have an excess of it.

One of the sites I regularly visit because I think they occasionally have some decent content, I made a mistake of clicking on an “article” that was about stars of today when they were child actors.  Admittedly, it appealed to my nostalgic side before I realized what I was clicking into, and then it turned out to be this putrid list that contained maybe 70 words, several animated gifs, some YouTube videos, and was a cherry-picked list of fairly C-level actors that clearly are niche preferred by the writer (they don’t deserved to be called an author).

My, how things have changed

Inevitably, whenever I convene with members of my family, the topic of why I’m single, not married and popping out kids will arise. It’s as predictable as seeing dark clouds form in the sky and expecting precipitation.

This past weekend however, was slightly different. Whether it’s desperation, or acceptance of the times, I was suggested to turn to the unholy internet for my romantic pursuits. I won’t really go into detail why I do not agree with that suggestion, as it’s something I’ve written about many a time before, but I do have to admit it was pretty interesting that they made such a suggestion in general.

I side with Jared

Long story short: Actor Jared Padalecki (Supernatural) tweets that the death of actor Philip Seymour Hoffman on account of heroin overdose is stupid and insinuates that it shouldn’t really be classified as a tragedy because it did it unto himself.  Twitter sheep explode at Padalecki and make him have to defend himself.

I am not a fan of Philip Seymour Hoffman, nor will I bother to pretend like I was, and/or that he was the greatest actor ever.  Frankly, I think the vast majority of outlets and who are bemoaning his untimely demise could say similarly too, but in order to sound relevant and in-the-know, it’s necessary to stretch the truth just a little bit.  He’s been in movies that I’ve enjoyed sure, but seeing Philip Seymour Hoffman’s name on a starring list has never compelled me to need to see something at all.  I heard about the news of his death prior to the Super Bowl and frankly didn’t care, because in the grand spectrum of my little world, the existence of Philip Seymour Hoffman is completely inconsequential.

Just take a few steps back and try not to lol

Now I don’t often talk about politics on my brog, because I’m not qualified to do so, they bore me, and I think the whole fucking system is corrupted anyway, so why bother?  But this is too gold of a story to not go without some sort of mention.

Okay, ready?

A petition on the White House website proposes that Justin Bieber should be deported.  Furthermore, it easily cruised past the 100,000 signatures necessary to potentially ensure that it should be taken seriously.

I lol’d.  Not funny to you yet?  Take a few more steps back.
