The summer vacation I never wanted

A part of me never really wanted to talk about this, but just the same, there are times where I feel that I brog, because I want to write about the things in my life that are important, even if they’re not necessarily the best of connotations.  It’s not so much that I’m brogging to my audience of six, for their inquiring or alleviation of boredom, but at the same time an opportunity for me to chronicle my own life, and write things that I can look back and reflect upon or remind myself of what had happened at particular points of my life.

It’s not always just League of Legends, wrestling, sports and veiled social commentary, y’know.

Long story short, I haven’t been working for the better part of the last month now.  I resigned from my previous job, which most people knew because they know me, or can probably figure out by the fact that I got Confederate Memorial Day off every year, was along the lines of government work.  Things were a little oppressive, and a little too Big Brother-y, there were some archaic policies and mindsets in play, and in the end, I grew exasperated with my position, and it was just best that we parted ways and wished each other well on our future endeavors.

To write, or not to write

All six of my regular readers are probably aware of my general desire to post something at least once a weekday.  They may or may not have noticed that I haven’t posted anything over the last few days too.

That thing I have that most people wouldn’t believe called “the girlfriend” works an unorthodox schedule, which leaves her “weekend” somewhere in the middle of the week, as opposed to the traditional Saturday-Sunday.  I had some mid-week travel plans that went awry, AKA an inexplicable number of people decided to go where I wanted to go on the exact same dates I wanted to go, therefore there was no room on any flights to my destination.  So, I decided to scrap the trip, not go to work anyway, and spend my girlfriend’s weekend, with my girlfriend.

However, those were two days in which I wasn’t sitting at a computer, writing about nonsensical things, or trying to find nonsensical things to write about.  Actually, that’s not entirely true, because I was in front of a computer at times, but that was time spent playing, you’ll never believe this, League of Legends.

Feelin’ mediocre

I’m having one of those afternoons where I am disappointed, dejected and more or less bummed out.  Naturally, I had a train cart full of thoughts and emotions swirling around my head while I was driving home, but now that I’m behind the keys, I can’t seem to put any words down to convey how I’m feeling.

For starters, it all began with the fact that my submission didn’t make it into the Capcom Fighting Tribute book being released by Udon.  I knew the odds of getting in were pretty slim, given the fact that I was years out of practice when it comes to illustrating, but I honestly thought that I had a pretty winning idea, that if the right people understood what I was trying to convey, I might have a shot, on a humor route.  I liked my idea more than my art, and you can’t hit home runs if you don’t step to the plate, so regardless, I sent my submission out, and waited the month of anticipation and excitement with an alleged thousands of artists.

I can’t say I’m the least bit surprised when I found out that I didn’t make it into the book, because frankly there are a billion outrageously good artists out there in the world who make my best shot look like a toddler’s drawing of the American flag with seven stars and four stripes, and many more that won’t/didn’t get into the book much like me.  However, it doesn’t change the fact that I feel kind of crushed and defeated, nonetheless.

While trying to be the prodigal son

Long story short: my parents’ separation isn’t going that smoothly.  Big surprise there.  My sister and I have been doing everything we can from afar, but there will always be limitations to what we can do for them, without actually being them, or at least, being physically present with them while we try and do things for them.

Naturally, the whole ordeal is often exasperating, and leaves the both of us on the phone with ourselves, venting to one another about just how they could possibly drive us even more up the wall than they already are.  Ultimately, the conversations steer back to the fact that they’re our parents, and we’ll do whatever it is we can to make sure that they’re okay, because that’s what supposed good children do once they’re adults, they help their parents.

To those paying attention, know that recently my bank account took a fairly substantial hit, on account of some decisions that my parents made, without necessarily doing enough (read: any) checks and balances to what repercussions may come about with spontaneously changing bank accounts.  Although the incident from a few days ago wasn’t the first time that this had occurred, it was undoubtedly the worst, seeing as how it completely zeroed out that particular bank account and rendered my daily purchases and ability to pay bills compromised until repaired.

Envy

This, is what I get for trying to be a good, dutiful son, and try and protect dad and mom from the evil bill collectors that they’re not entirely sure of whom exactly they all are.

I expected another round of potential overdraft dings, but certainly not to the magnitude of completely wiping out this particular bank account.  Color me surprised when at dinner, I’m embarrassingly told that my card has been declined, and the mixed simultaneous feelings of dread and humility, before they were both drowned out by unadulterated anger.

Thanks dad and mom!

Funny how this works

I’m still trying to get back into the swing of things with regular writing, now that my brog is (somewhat) back up and operational again, but as I’m sure anyone who visits on a somewhat regular basis might have noticed, things haven’t been so daily as it once was prior to the server move.

Admittedly, a part of that has to do with the fact that I guess for lack of a better term, I fell kind of out practice with regular daily writing.  As I said about fifty times during the downtime, there was very much an out of sight-out of mind mentality that had occurred, not being able to see a brog at all, but I still made my best efforts to scour the internets for things to trigger a though process or serve as an impetus to vomit out 500 words or more about a particular topic, but it was far from a regular daily exercise like it had been prior to the downtime.

However, another aspect to the lack of writing is simply the fact that I’ve been pretty happy over the last few weeks.  Now my closest confidants and those I see on a fairly regular basis know precisely what this is the case, and I have to imagine that anyone with half-to-three-quarters of a brain could probably surmise my weak attempts at veiled hints to why this is also the case, but for lack of a better term, I’ve been quite pleased with life in general over the last few weeks, even if it seems like the world around me is mired in gloom, angst and unfortunate circumstances; I can’t control anyone else’s life but by own (to a degree), and the things that have been happening in my life lately have made me pretty pleased.
