90 Day Shenanigans

Okay. I know that this wasn’t a surprise. But still it sucks to have not seen one failure, in a season set up to have at least like two failures.

Despite the fact that I had pegged at least one couple as a shoe-in to achieve colossal failure, for all intents and purposes, every single couple of season 2 of TLC’s 90 Day Fiancé made it to the altar, and both parties said “I do.”

This wasn’t that tremendous of a surprise, because people do dumb things as long as they’re being put on television. But still, I really wanted to see one member of at least one couple decide that the circumstances were just too exasperating, or something clearly turned out to not be what they had hoped for, and said fuck it, and went back to their native country, and/or break it off and send their mail-order spouse packing.

TLC’s Risking it All is a crock

Because I’m a fan of TLC’s array of trainwreck shows, it was kind of a lock that I was going to watch Risking it All.  Long story short, the premise of the show is three families (the Kemps, Watfords and Elliotts) that decide to begin lives anew “off the grid.”

Quotations, because of loose interpretations of what living off the grid really means.

Sounds like a recipe for more TLC goodness, right?

Forget the notion that the impetus behind the families’ starts with the breadwinners of each respective families losing their jobs, so the logical next step would be to go off the grid.  That’s basically like saying I lost my job, and instead of doing what other people do, which is to look for another job, deciding that I was going to uproot my family and go move into the woods.

90 Day Politically Incorrect Statement

During October, while other TV snobs were going apeshit over the impending returns of programming such as The Walking Dead and American Horror Story: Freak Show, I too was getting excited of another showing embarking on a new season.

90 Day Fiancé.

I’m fucking serious.  The most popular shows in the country have some stiff competition as far as I’m concerned with the parade of train wrecks that TLC keeps putting out.  Extreme Cheapskates, My Strange Addiction, My Five Wives, I can’t get enough of these terribly entertaining shows.  But among those, I’d have to say that 90 Day Fiancé might have to be my favorite.

I love Jessica Lange

Quite often, I’ll develop these mock crushes on the most random girls seen in media.  And more often, I’ll ride them ironically, because I know it makes people roll their eyes, or there’s a sense of amusement in it for me.  Like for example Taylor Swift; she’s a beautiful young woman, who’s undoubtedly easy on the eyes, and I like to pretend like I enjoy her poppy music, because it makes every girl I know roll their eyes and chastise me for being such a basic guy.

But I don’t really care about Taylor Swift.  Or the cute brunette on the AT&T commercials that plays “Lily.”  Or Autumn Reeser, Alexandra Breckenridge or Emma Roberts.  Sure, they’re all aesthetically pleasing to me, but when the day is over, I don’t really care about any of them.

Jessica Lange, on the other hand, she is the actress that I love more than anything.  Like seriously, it’s hard to describe the admiration and love for her I have as a performer.  I’m enjoying American Horror Story: Freak Show as much as any other AHS fan should, but there was actually a moment in the earlier episodes where I voiced my displeasure that there frankly wasn’t enough Jessica Lange being shown to that point.

D*C 2014: Playing photo favoritism

Despite the fact that I’m overall less-than satisfied with the quality of the pictures I took throughout the Dragon*Con weekend, this doesn’t change the fact that all over the convention throughout the entire weekend, there was a lot of great costumes out there. That being said, of all the pictures I took throughout the entire event, I’d like to shed a little bit of light on some of my favorites.

Kayle, from League of Legends. Yeah, no surprise that I go with a LoL one off the bat. Unmasked Kayle, to be specific.

I’ve actually run into this particular costumer a few times now, like at the previous D*C, and once in MegaCon in Florida, but it doesn’t change the fact that whenever I see this costume, I’m kind of a little awestruck.

Photos: Dragon*Con 2014 – Sunday

In spite of all of the mad rushing and hard work put into the weeks and days prior to the coming of this year’s D*C, there was a surreal moment on Sunday morning when I woke up, and thought to myself, “is it really Sunday already?”  Needless to say, the weekend quite literally felt like it flew by way too fast, and there was that melancholy feeling of wanting to see as many people as I could during the day, and to empty out my cooler as expediently as possible before the end of the convention.

And after feeling like I had too tiny a number of photos taken on Saturday, I really wanted to spend a good chunk of Sunday doing what I really enjoy doing the most; simply walking around and taking pictures.  Eventually the daylight hours gave away to night, and as has been something of a thing I’ve enjoyed doing, felt the compulsion to dress nicely.

Really, I just wanted to wear my wingtip shoes, that there is probably zero photo evidence of anywhere out there, but if I was going to wear wingtips, I needed to dress accordingly to match it.  Which brings us to the suit vest and tie.  I LIKE TO DRESS NICE, OKAY?

Saturday’s gallery is vastly smaller than what a normal Saturday gallery should be, but that’s entirely due to the fact that I myself was in costume for a good part of the late-afternoon into the evening hours.  Now as much fun as I had being Fifth Age Taric, I’d be the first to admit that I spotted a lot of things that I’d really liked to have taken pictures of, had I not been in costume.  And Taric’s not exactly the kind of costume where I could sneak a point-and-shoot with me to take some B-roll shots, since both my hands are occupied in costume.

Regardless, most of Saturday’s highlights are lots of League of Legends costumes; I wandered around the gigantic group shot area outside of the Hilton, and waited out the group pictures, since to be perfectly honest, I hate taking pictures of monstrously sized groups, preferring more to take pictures of individuals or in small pairs or troikas.

Not saying there’s no pictures of things not LoL-related, but it’s pretty obvious to what has and is my preferred subject to take pictures of.
