Dragon-Con 2011 Photos: That is if you didn’t know where to look already

Shit, all these photos were uploaded on the 5th, and subsequently updated on the actual photos page.  But I thought it would be fun to torture those of my friends and anonymous readers who think I’m Mr. Spot-On-The-Money Reliable at getting photos up right away, who wait for me to put up an actual update notification on the brog FP that photos are up, and make them read some of my stories and experiences before unleashing the rest of the photographs.  But anyway, here are the rest of all the photos I took during Dragon-Con.

Overall, Dragon-Con was fun.  It was nice to stay at one of the host hotels, even if it wasn’t the Marriott, thus requiring some creativity in maneuvering about at times.  If anything at all, such luxury meant I didn’t have to worry about getting a DUI when I drove home after a night of drinking at 4 a.m.

I will admit though, that the convention started out very slowly for me, and I was honestly bored for a lot of the initial day(s).  A lot of people I would have expected to come down, didn’t, and then there are a lot of people who did come down, and I had no idea they did, until I happened to run into them completely on chance.  Wandering about by yourself at Dragon-Con can sometimes get bored, as it seems like so many people go with many groups and activities already planned, leaving a wanderer like myself to sometimes feel a bit on the outside looking in, but no matter, I still had fun participating in spontaneous gatherings of my existing friend bases.

As for costumes, either my standards are getting ridiculously high, or I simply am not stimulated or impressed by much these days.  I know the selfish nature of this statement, but frankly, I couldn’t help but notice many re-runs of costumes that I’ve seen for the second, or more years in a row; impressive as some of them may be, I frankly don’t want to photograph them again, necessarily.  I don’t really care much about gigantic groups of Marvel, or DC characters, since photographically, they end up looking like gigantic clusterfucks of people with red-eye in the end.  And just in general, overall, the quality of costumes just didn’t seem that great this year, naturally excluding the group of people I know that put in ridiculous amounts of effort, work, and sleepless nights into their own works of fresh new material.  If anything at all, there weren’t nearly as much costumes of older movies and TV shows that tickle my love of nostalgia of things from the 80s and 90s, either.

But as I said, overall, Dragon-Con was fun.  Drinking naturally made some evenings more fun than others, but regardless of level of inebriation, it’s always a pleasure to see friends and acquaintances, and catch up and/or spend some quality socializing time together.
