So, Asheville. I was looking forward to visiting this place more than about any other place I had thought about visiting throughout the 2014 baseball season, because to my understanding Asheville was a town known for interesting dining, lots of local breweries, and it happened to be a place within reasonable driving distance that had a minor league ballpark I’ve never visited, AND they just so happened to be giving out a bobblehead, AND they were also playing against an Atlanta Braves affiliate. Needless to say, it was the no-brainer of no-brainers that I would be looking forward to this particular trip.
Much to my expectations, Asheville was a lovely place that I enjoyed a great deal. The drive to get there wasn’t the least bit difficult, and it frankly just felt good to get in my own car and drive somewhere I’d never really been to before.
I spent an entire afternoon bouncing from restaurants, bars and breweries, sampling local fare, as well as taking in the sights of the town. Much to my expectations, Asheville was in fact a town with lots of different local brews, and I took great pleasure in sampling quite a few of them, because my car was safely parked, and I was going around on foot, so I didn’t have to worry about driving inebriated.
Not as expected was the seemingly over-abundance of hippies, street performers, and for whatever reason, soap merchants throughout Asheville. It’s like everywhere I went, there were hippies setting up shop on the sidewalks, clogging up the paths, and playing shitty music. And tourists and/or locals eating it up. In front of places that boasted the sale of all-natural, homemade soap. Interesting.
Regardless, I enjoyed Asheville tons. It’s the kind of place that I’d like to visit again, even if it’s not baseball season, although I wouldn’t mind watching more games at the ballpark I’ll soon publish my review on shortly. But with restaurants and beer all over the place in a cozy, scenic town, I could very easily see myself going back one of these days.
