Because that’s a great idea: The Atlanta Hawks’ new developmental team, to get, wait for it . . . wait for it . . . a new stadium!
Everything about this is a bad idea. For starters, the NBA is a joke of an organization, bastardizing a pure game with hip-hop, flash and no substance, and the repeated degradation of a sport enjoyed all across the world. But to swindle taxpayers into creating an arena nobody wants for a D-league team?? Now that’s just some bull shit, if I’ve ever heard it in my life.
The D-league isn’t like minor league baseball; contrary to what the NBA wants people to believe. People end up in the D-league, because they’re simply not good enough to make it into the NBA, and the D-league is more or less a holding cell for mediocre players, with organizations hoping the cream of the crop will rise, into becoming a useful backup player for the big squads.
Regardless, Atlanta somehow sees it fit to build a new arena for mediocrity, obviously because it will pay back more to those who invest into it than it actually benefits those around it. And the fact that it’s going to be located in College Park?? That’s about an idea as good as a Mercedes-Benz pickup truck.
College Park, for lack of a better term, is a ghetto. It’s where there’s gunshots reported just about every single night, and where rappers love to name drop as a place to test their street cred.
Yet College Park is going to be on the hook for $20 million out of a supposed figure of $40 million in order to build an arena nobody will care about being played in by a developmental squad that nobody is going to care about. Given the nature of estimates and accuracy, it’s safe to assume College Park will be on the hook for like $35 million, out of like $60 million, to make up for all the pocket lining the crooked bureaucrats of the city will inevitably be doing in their circlejerk for more stadiums.
College Park probably hasn’t even circulated remotely close to $20 million dollars in their 120-year history. It’s disgusting just how the poor city is being put on the hook for such a pointless venture, and that those who live there and actually pay their taxes will be responsible for building something that a lot of people probably couldn’t’ care less about.
A D-league team should be playing in like a high school gymnasium or something. If the players want to feel big league, they need to bust their ass and earn the right to play in a big league arena, and not be handed a new arena because corrupt politicians want to line their pockets.
It’s astounding just how crooked this city’s obsession with new stadiums is. The metro Atlanta area has basically two major league baseball parks, a minor league park, two football stadiums, an arena for basketball, an arena for arena football, minor league hockey, a separate soccer training facility, and now a developmental basketball arena. People don’t care about any of them, because none of them are truly home to any champions, yet they continue to be built an erected anyway.
I actually feel bad for College Park, for being victim to a legalized crime, and I think College Park is a shithole to begin with. But even they don’t deserve being swindled for yet another Atlanta sports venue.
