It’s just food

Lately, I hear on a fairly regular basis the crucifixion of Chick-Fil-A.  About how they hate gays, support anti-gay things, and other claims and allegations that martyr gay people.  Now I apologize if I’m a bit ambivalent to the news around the world, but the few things that I’ve read about the matter have all stated that the Cathy family, stated that they were “supportive of the traditional family.”  Sure, that means that they don’t approve of gay marriage, but it also means they don’t support interracial marriages, or people getting divorces let alone re-marrying either.

Somewhere along the line, this whole war turned into Chick-Fil-A versus Gay People.  It seems to me that that’s not really what this is really about, yet somehow it’s been steered to go in this direction.  I don’t think it’s right that the Cathy family is against non-traditional families, but that’s their opinions, but I also don’t think it’s right that gay people are the only ones martyred in this whole equation when there are several other factions that have just as much right to be appalled by the opinions of the Cathys.

Yeah, no.  High-waist shorts are ugly

Obviously I’m not some authority on women’s fashion, but I know what I like to see as a guy.  That being said, what I don’t like seeing these days is the unfortunate trend that high-wasted shorts are supposedly in fashion for women these days.  I don’t get it at all; it’s ugly as fuck.  Only a small percentage of girls seem to be able to actually pull it off and not look silly, but there’s a fairly slim percentage that also coincidentally have the right shape and figure in order to make that happen.

It’s like a cross between mom’s closet and/or trying to look like the kind of hippies that aren’t desirable.  In terms of functionality, I’d guess high-waist stuff is vastly superior at covering up stomachs some chicks don’t want to show, or prevent the peeking of panties and all, but frankly, I find the overall look to abhorring.  It accentuates girls with short legs by making their torsos look longer, and much like the weird poofy-squash skirts that used to be trendy, it creates this odd shape of Urkel-high waist with a short segue into the boobs.  And then there’s the irony of when girls try to wear high-waist shorts sexy, by wearing them tight, or they’re Daisy Duke-short; sure it might hug the ass and ride up in a sexy way, but because they go up so high, it makes the booty look giant and/or elongated.  Hence, unsexy.

Monetary prizes on television have sure taken a hit these days

Lately, I’ve caught a few episodes of various reality contest shows, such as Sweet Genius and Craft Wars. Yeah, I know how gay that sounds, but if they’re on television, often times I stay on the channels and watch.  Sweet Genius is interesting, because I do find amusement in cooking shows, and being a glutton there is appeal in it.

As for Craft Wars, I think the show is putrid, Tori Spelling is still a talentless slug, and I find it ironic that not only was she terrible at acting, she’s apparently found a way to be terrible at portraying reality, too.  And the show’s judges completely miss the point of the show entirely and judge based on the criteria polished, finalized projects for shit thrown together in 1-4 hours, when they’re not making catty gay remarks towards each other.  Needless to say, my relationship with Craft Wars is one of those “it’s such a shitty show and makes me irritated, that I tune in to grill it while acknowledging that I’m giving them the attention I shouldn’t be.

It’s funny how things turn out in time

Last weekend, I was up in NOVA during the trip I couldn’t get back from, and I went to a baseball game with my dad.  During the drive up to Frederick, Maryland, we got stuck in the typical I-270 traffic, due to the fairly abrupt ending of the third lane.  It’s not like my dad and I have a ton of things to talk about in the first place, especially with the language difficulties between us in the first place.

For whatever reason, my dad decided to start a topic which was akin to my mom and aunts always badgering me about how I need to get married and start popping out grandkids.  The fact that it was coming from my dad was a little strange, but I guess deep down, he too wants to have some mighty grandchildren to carry on the Hong family name and bloodline, but truthfully my dad is fantastic with babies really.

It started with him bringing up a girl I went to elementary and high school with and even the same church, who is the same age as I am, and her dad is friends with my dad.  And how about she’s now engaged, and that he was invited to the wedding as guests of the parents I guess.  But then he said that she’s marrying a Vietnamese guy, and I just kind of snort-laugh, you know the sound I’m talking about.  A Korean girl marrying a Vietnamese guy, it’s laughable to me, kinda.

Photos: Bay Area Trip, day 2: San Francisco

My primary reason for going to the Bay Area in the first place was because it was home to two more Major League ballparks that needed to be visited on my long-standing quest to visit all the MLB cities.  After a day of too much driving after too much flying, it was adventures in San Francisco via foot and rail.

As a whole, I don’t know how to really feel about San Francisco.  I think at its core, it’s one of those places I chalk up as “nice place to visit, but wouldn’t really want to live there.”  It’s funny, considering just how far north the Bay Area is, from like the borders into Latin America, but when the day is over, I’m convinced there’s significantly larger Hispanic numbers in San Francisco than I witnessed in Los Angeles and San Diego.

Studies show that people can eat my tits

All throughout my life, I have taken a lot of criticism about how I always look angry.  Are you okay?  Is everything alright?  You look upset/mad/pissed about something.  Most of the time, I really am fine, regardless of the agitated-looking neutral facial appearance I have.  But don’t tell that to the segment of the world that believes that appearances do matter, and I can’t really say I blame them, because often times I think it too.

But it turns out, that those with “aggressive looks” are SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN to be more generous, selfless and better human beings to their friends and close ones:

…men with angry, violent faces are actually far more likely to makes sacrifices for their close friends.

Well hey, if it was published by the National Institute of Health, it has to be true, right?

So do you hear that? Just because I look pissed doesn’t mean I am upset and homicidal.  I’m generous and selfless and put other people first like a kind and considerate motherfucker.  I’m more likely to be the best friend you never knew you had, if I don’t scare the shit out of you first.

This is what life behind bars feels like

This is me behind bars.  In Alcatraz.

I know the size of an Alcatraz cell wasn’t that big, but man, seeing it live, and actually getting to go inside one really puts things into perspective.  Anyone taller than 6’2 was probably fucked and incapable of properly laying on their back.

The tour itself was kind of boring, to be honest.  There were too many tourists and high school douchebags running all over the place, and just about every single part of the island was “closed for your safety.”  But for what it’s worth, it was kind of cool to see the cell blocks and the boat rides to the island were cool and provided some good opportunity for some scenic city photos.

All of which will be coming in very soon days, once I sort through a variety of self-imposed and obligated writing assignments and postings in the various blogs I write/contribute/provide for on top of my own personal one.  But posts like this keep my post count up and makes me feel justified for being a good brogger.
