Lately, I hear on a fairly regular basis the crucifixion of Chick-Fil-A. About how they hate gays, support anti-gay things, and other claims and allegations that martyr gay people. Now I apologize if I’m a bit ambivalent to the news around the world, but the few things that I’ve read about the matter have all stated that the Cathy family, stated that they were “supportive of the traditional family.” Sure, that means that they don’t approve of gay marriage, but it also means they don’t support interracial marriages, or people getting divorces let alone re-marrying either.
Somewhere along the line, this whole war turned into Chick-Fil-A versus Gay People. It seems to me that that’s not really what this is really about, yet somehow it’s been steered to go in this direction. I don’t think it’s right that the Cathy family is against non-traditional families, but that’s their opinions, but I also don’t think it’s right that gay people are the only ones martyred in this whole equation when there are several other factions that have just as much right to be appalled by the opinions of the Cathys.
I’m technically a minority, being Korean and all, and I honestly don’t think I’ll end up with another Korean girl. Most Korean girls I meet are too bitchy, and/or remind me of a family member. I do not want to marry someone who falls in either category. So that means my only hope for marriage lies in a non-traditional marriage, because I often dig girls that are not Asian. So technically, I have a claim to be dissatisfied with the opinions of the Cathy family. But I don’t; because as much as I disagree with those opinions, and it makes me think the Cathys are ignorant, frankly, I don’t think they have any power to actually make anything in this world happen to actually prevent me from pursuing a non-traditional marriage.
But the thing is, I am not taking out my disagreement on Chick-Fil-A. Because Chick-Fil-A is just a business, and they just make food. Food I like to indulge in from time to time, to be perfectly honest, because I fucking love their spicy chicken sandwiches. I don’t care if people argue that Chick-Fil-A money is Cathy money, and Cathy money is being used to fund anti-non-traditional marriage beliefs, because again, I don’t think that’s actually doing anything, because those organizations are still run by corrupt, greedy people who are more likely to pocket said donations rather than use them for their futile, suppressive and ignorant cause.
Furthermore I do not hate Chick-Fil-A in the least bit, because frankly, Chick-Fil-A is a company that kept my ass employed and capable of paying bills and making a salary, and living my life. Frankly, that’s a little more reason for me to be supportive of them, because they supported me when I needed it. I designed some of their menus, worked on their signage as well as nutritional collateral as well as facility literature. All, at a company that also employed several hostile bull-dykes, some obviously gay men, and other minorities (including a real actual Redcorn). Are these people going to quit that job, because they think they’re martyrs? I’m willing to bet that it’s an astounding fuck no, because they really need to keep their jobs like everyone else who has a job currently, or maybe some of the reasons I’ve listed above.
I just think people need to get off Chick-Fil-A’s nuts and stop pretending like they don’t enjoy their food, shakes or other goods, because a bunch of other sheep think that the entire company is anti-gay, down to their perky white teenage cashiers who say “may I?” and “my pleasure.” Contrary to the popular belief, Chick-Fil-A peddles in the distribution of food, not unadulterated bigotry. It’s just fucking food.
I refuse to believe anyone who claims they won’t ever eat their food ever again, because of the beliefs of the Cathy family; if you do, good for you, but if you find yourself in a moment of spiritual weakness and you want some spicy nuggets, waffle fries or a peach milkshake, I won’t judge you for it. It’s just food.
