Mafia Graves gun update: Shell Shock’d

Shell Shock is some amazing shit.  I’ve currently got all foam components of the gun slathered and covered in about three coats of Shell Shock, and they’re almost all fully cured, and ready to begin the initial sanding down of them.  If all goes according to plan, then all of them will be smooth and plastic-hard shelled, and ready for painting, and eventual assembly before finalization.

Again, I have to reiterate that it’s actually been fun to be creating shit again with my own hands, instead of years of watching on the sidelines.  Throughout the week, I had been receiving and gathering materials for my costume as a whole, and I’m actually growing excited about everything as more and more pieces come in.  I look forward to the eventual completion of this gun, and I hope it’s everything I hoped it would look like.

This is for all the LoL Playerhaters

When Tryndamere gets fed too early
When nobody targets Caitlyn first
When everybody targets Rammus first
When your teammates don’t call MIAs
When nobody wants to be a tank
When Fizz hops harmlessly over your ult
When nobody buys any wards
When you die when a teammates hits a Teemo shroom
When your Brazilian teammate pings like crazy
When your Chinese teammate blames everyone else
When your jungling Shaco sucks
and theirs doesn’t.

You go QQ.

Gun updates

As far as cutting and sanding goes, I really don’t have much left.  After five straight days of working, I feel as if I’m in a pretty decent place, time-wise.

Come the weekend, I’ll delve into the world of mixing chemicals and slathering most of this shit in Shell Shock to harden up the materials, and then there will be many nights of more sanding and cleaning, before the time comes when painting happens.  I already foresee many many screws and lot of adhesive, which will ultimately be holding this gun together in the end.

By the way, this is what the final product is going to resemble, at least to the best of my ability.

It currently looks like the gayest gun in the world, sure

But I hope to soon promise that in the end, it won’t.

I’m actually playing the dress-up game again for a night at this year’s Dragon-Con.  Okay, yeah I did Safari Chris last year, but that was something I already had.  I’m actually putting forth some effort this year in making something, so I can join my friends this year instead of standing on the sidelines.  This is the current status of the gun I’m making for a Graves costume, to take part in a League of Legends grouping.  Like every character I’ve ever dressed up as, I do in fact have an attachment to the character, as he’s my primary choice when I play LoL.

Photos: Otakon, sort of

The last time I went to Otakon prior to this past weekend was literally ten years ago.  In 2002.  I decided to go this year after such a gigantic hiatus, because I was already going to be up there for Hacksaw Jim Duggan night, I had decent fun delving back into some conventions, at Neko-con and Animazement in prior months, and pretty much everyone I would have wanted to see pretty much runs Otakon now.

I guess looking back at the weekend, if I could have done it all over again, I probably wouldn’t have bothered going if I knew what it was going to be like nowadays.  Not to say the convention is bad, on the contrary, it’s run better than it’s ever been run nowadays, it’s just I realize how much of a cup of tea Otakon is not for me today.

This is Ahri before Ahri was cool

Ahri is a character from the online arena game, League of Legends.  She’s based loosely on an Asian mythical nine-tailed fox, that depending on which country you’re asking, has variations on its story.  Most of them depict the nine-tailed fox as an evil creature, mostly utilizing deception, trickery, and/or seduction to commit its evil deeds.  But since the design of the character is so leaning towards Korean in appearance and clothing, I’m lead to the belief that it’s a Korean iteration, the character is loosely based around.

I have this book of translated Korean fairy tales, that a cousin got for my sister when I was young that I somehow came to inherit.  It’s full of entertaining stories and a glimpse of culture differences, but one of the stories dealt with the nine-tailed fox.  And as is the case with most stories involving the nine-tailed fox, it’s evil, and it’s out to kill shit.  But the origins are essentially the same; girl is killed by the nine-tailed fox, nine-tailed fox takes the form of the girl, starts wrecking shit up.  In this story, Ahri kills horses and eats their livers, before killing her parents eventually.  Her brother is eventually the one who kills her, and in the aftermath the true form of a corpse of a fox with nine tails is discovered.

But the above imagery is a stark contrast to the sexified Ahri that’s available to play in LoL today.
