Dragon*Con 2015: Thoughts and Closing

Better late than never, right? Life’s been a little bit hectic since the conclusion of the convention, and between balancing life, family and work, on top of trying to edit and process down 500+ photographs, finding the time to write, much less catch up on all of the thoughts and words I had in mind in regards to Dragon*Con seemed like somewhat of a daunting task. But I’m in a good place with photos currently, and with what feels like a window of opportunity to do some writing, away we go.

“Clarity” is the one word I repeatedly answered with, whenever anyone asked me how the convention was.

I’ve made no secret that I wasn’t really looking forward to the convention as Labor Day approached. A combination of some life moves, a little bit of financial struggling, some ambivalence, and just the general feeling that it just might be the same song and dance as it’s been for the 13 straight previous Dragon*Cons that I’ve been to made me feel a little, un-excited about this year’s.

Finally, we come to Sunday’s gallery of friends and goofing around.

I don’t really know what to say about it by now, it’s already been three galleries full of doofy selfies with those I deem friends or acquaintances, and a whole bunch of random pictures of those more or less inside of my social circle(s) being goofy and posing silly for the camera.

However, the constant of that these are typically the images that I really enjoy looking through the most when reminiscing, remains the same.

Much love for errybody possibly seen in these pictures.

Oh, this is going to be good

And by good, I mean tragically bad, because at least when it comes to interacting with large companies, celebrities and large social media entities where participation is practically anonymous, there’s going to be a whole lot of disliking about to happen.

That’s right, Facebook has announced that they are going to create a Dislike function, because people apparently want to be able to express empathy:

The exact form a “Dislike” button may take is still up in the air. “What [users] really want is the ability to express empathy,” Zuckerberg added. “Not every moment is a good moment.”

Finally, we arrive at Sunday’s costume gallery.  This is the last general costuming gallery for me, as I didn’t really stick around on Monday, and was gone fairly early in the afternoon, and had already packed up my camera.

Naturally, it’s packed full of League of Legends costumers, primarily.  If anyone were anything like me by Sunday, it’s like the convention as a royal entity, itself, was tired of all the Max Max and Jurassic Park costumes.

Anyway, there was still plenty left to catch my fancy, for hopefully some deemed acceptable pictures.

Photos: Dragon*Con 2015 – Saturday Friends

It would be criminal for this photo to not get some sort of preferential treatment, so it basically sums up Saturday night’s goofing off, starting with Atlanta’s own King of Pops popsicle cart selling boozy popsicles much to the joy to those of us in the perpetual sauna-like Marriott.

Within, you’ll see a few more pictures from the Georgia Aquarium’s Dragon*Con Night, as well as the Maniac Mansion group that I missed some of, but my friends stuck around for a few extra shots, before the typical all hell broke loose and the parade of goofy pictures and selfies begins.

The good news is that I probably took more pictures on Saturday than I did on any other day, so after the lengthy gap in between getting Friday’s and Saturday’s pictures up, (I hope) the rest will go by somewhat more expediently.

Like the last costume gallery, I was being pretty meticulous about trying to take pictures in groups of threes, or at least presenting them in a way that was neat and orderly (kind of), because I’m psychotic like that and have such a strong need for organization.

Anyway, this was an entire day of picture taking at the convention, before escaping to the Georgia Aquarium for their own Dragon*Con Night, which was an interesting escape from the typical convention setting, getting to look at the awesome collection of aquatic life in between taking pictures of people in costume, before it was back to the hotels for the usual devolving into the nights of drinking and camaraderie.

Counting down tragic numbers

D*C picture status: Saturday’s pictures will go up tomorrow, September 15.

At the time I’m writing this, the Atlanta Braves are 56-88, and tied for last place in the NL East division, as well as the worst record in all of Major League Baseball. They’re just as bad as the Phillies whom were popularly predicted to guaranteed lose 100 or more games; the pinnacle of futility when it comes to a baseball season.

For whatever reason, nobody except for me really had the Braves pegged for 100 losses, but as we near the rapidly approaching end of the regular season, the Braves are pretty much on a rocket ship crash course for 100 losses, if not substantially more than that.

Of their last 30 games, the Braves have literally won just four of them.  And two of them were against the Phillies, who barely count as a major league franchise in their own right, currently.  (btw, the Phillies have won 11 games out of their last 30, in comparison)  If this current trend between both teams keeps up, the Braves will undoubtedly finish out the season as the worst team in baseball, along with over 100 losses.
